Ah, the good old days. Soda fountains! Hitting a hoop down the street with a stick! Stuff like that! Don’t we all miss them? Well, as someone who was born in the 1990s, I do not miss them – because I never knew them. But the power of nostalgia still has a strong grip on me, and us all, and food companies. They can’t stop hitting us with throwback vibes designed to conjure up a feeling of the past (see Pizza Hut’s old-school restaurants for proof – and to be honest, those do look cool).

Mountain Dew is well and truly leaning into nostalgia next week, with the release of its limited-edition can bundle. And it’ll cost you a grand total of $0.05. Here’s the deal.
Mountain Dew Commemorative Cans
Mountain Dew has announced that it’s building on its “American Original – Tasting Great Since ‘48” campaign, with a new drop of a limited-edition commemorative can bundle next week. Starting June 29, the brand will release these new bundles exclusively on TikTok Shop, which will contain a commemorative can and a 10-pack of Mountain Dew mini cans. There will be 1,948 cans in total available for purchase, and each one will cost a nickel.
This release will likely cause a bit of a frenzy, but Mountain Dew is spreading it out somewhat to try and ease traffic (and, we guess, increase people’s chances of getting them): The bundles will be released across three days, June 29, June 30, and June 1. Purchases are limited to one per person. Head to Mountain Dew’s Instagram and check out its stories at noon ET each day to see how many are available.
And…Why Is It Doing All This? What’s This Campaign About?
Mtn Dew’s “American Original – Tasting Great Since ‘48” campaign has been going on since the spring and is designed to honor the brand’s legacy and history. It launched with a couple of creative spots that highlight the origin story of the Tennessee-born drink.
If we’re being totally honest, 2026 feels a bit of an odd year to celebrate all this – surely Mountain Dew should have waited until 2028, to mark a full 80 years…? But then, we also get it: Brands are increasingly leaning into legacy, history, and a celebration of being born in the USA in the lead-up to its 250th birthday, and there have been a lot of patriotic foods to mark all that. Mountain Dew’s already done that with its American Dew, but this feels like another way to bring it back, as it were.
