Eggo is here to make sure you have the strength to say “L’eggo my Eggo” and mean it. Last year, the brand launched two varieties of Protein Waffles with 10 grams of protein per serving: Strawberry Delight and Chocolate Chip Brownie. Today, I’ve got my hands on two new additions to that lineup—even if they sound classic as hell. Let’s check out new Eggo’s Buttermilk Vanilla Protein Waffles and Blueberry Protein Pancakes.
- Buttermilk Vanilla Eggo Protein Waffles
-
Pros: I’ve never had buttermilk vanilla waffles before, so the flavor laced through this waffle was a pleasant surprise. The most surprising factor was that these don’t taste like protein waffles at all! While other protein waffles (and protein-laden foods in general) can have something of a grit to them, this is texturally identical to a standard waffle. I really dug this as a frozen waffle, full stop. And any food with effectively bonus nutrients is alright in my book.
Cons: It’s still a frozen waffle coming out of a toaster, so there is a certain floppy vibe going on that I can’t pretend to love outside of Eggo nostalgia. The serving size is two waffles—nothing abnormal, but it does effectively halve the “protein” they’re pushing on the box (10g per serving). Not everyone eats two waffles at a time.

- Blueberry Eggo Protein Pancakes
-
Pros: These sure are microwavable pancakes—they’re quick and easy. These pancakes also didn’t have any “protein snack” texture to them, which is no small feat. If Eggo can shove 13 grams of your daily recommended protein into a three-stack of pancakes without anyone noticing, I’ve got a few questions for all the protein bars that can’t pull off the same feat.
Cons: If the waffles were a little floppy, these pancakes invented the original concept of flop. I don’t have a ton of experience with microwavable pancakes and these won’t have me busting down doors in the freezer section to update our ranking. And I’m not quite sure why these couldn’t be put in the toaster; putting anything Eggo into a microwave just feels wrong.
