If you missed the news, Lay’s is releasing over 40 new global flavors for the World Cup—a feat I’m personally in awe of, because I know how hard it is just to come up with one new creative chip flavor nowadays. I’ll let you down gently, though: We only get three of them here in the U.S. They really are releasing these globally, as in, different countries get different flavors. I think that’s pretty cool… even if I’m bummed about not getting to try Lay’s Portuguese Chorizo & Onion chips for myself. Sigh.
Anyways, I did get to try the new Lay’s Argentinian-Style Steak with Chimichurri. I was initially dubious about this flavor, but it actually really surprised me and the rest of my taste-testing team. Here’s what we had to say about it!

New Lay’s Chips!
- Lay’s Argentinian-Style Steak with Chimichurri

Pros: The seasoning certainly has chimicurri’s vibrant blend of herby, garlicky flavor, which is pretty neat. I kinda forget that parsley has a taste until I have it in a chimichurri sauce, and boy can you taste that parsley here, too. You also get a seared steak flavor on the finish that’s really subtle, but definitely there. It almost tastes like the juices of a steak, specifically. (I checked the ingredients; it’s the beef fat that’s doing this, and I love it.)
Cons: I think this new Lay’s flavor is more for foodies, not the general public. It’s not super bold, and I find the concept of a fancy meat marinade as a potato chip something that isn’t going to do huge numbers at, like, a backyard BBQ for all ages.
Verdict: I’m really glad this exists, and if you’re able to try it for yourselves while it’s available, great! But don’t feel like you’re missing out on too much if not.
