We Desperately Want McDonald’s New Mini Egg Frappe

The UK gets a really bad rep for its food – but speaking as a Brit, I don’t think that’s entirely justified. If you need any proof of this, look at our candy (which we call “sweets,” because they’re…sweet). Over the pond, our selection of British chocolates and treats like Percy Pigs is undeniably delicious, and our love of Cadbury’s Mini Eggs, which come around each Easter, is pretty much insatiable. These crunchy-on-the-outside, smooth-on-the-inside nuggets of joy are available in the US, but they’re not quite the same.

This year, McDonald’s UK is jumping on the Mini Eggs train, in a move that US customers may be looking at with envy. Instagram account @uknewestfoods just revealed that it’s releasing a Mini Egg Frappe, and honestly? It looks like the bomb. Here’s what we know.

Crunchy Chocolate and Iced Coffee – It’s A Holy Combination

The new McDonald’s Mini Egg Frappe looks like it sits somewhere between a milkshake and a classic iced coffee, and honestly, we’re not mad about it. It starts with a chocolate-based frappe that combines coffee, chocolate, and “Mini Egg dust,” and is then topped with a swirl of whipped cream. Then, it’s finished with more Mini Egg dust, and (if the mockup on @uknewestfoods is to be believed), a handful of whole Mini Eggs. Is it subtle? No. Will it be delish? Yes.

Unsurprisingly, the Brits in the comment section of the Instagram post revealing the frappe are beside themselves with glee. “If this isn’t real I’ll kick off,” said one commenter. You have been warned, Mickey D’s. Others questioned whether this new frappe might also lead the way to a Mini Egg McFlurry. Look, if it has the ingredients sitting in its stores, then it’d be a tragedy not to take advantage of them. We’re just sayin’. We’ll get in the kitchen and do it ourselves if we must.

It’s Not All Tea and Scones Over There

Generally, the menus at McDonald’s UK and McDonald’s US are fairly similar – but over in the UK, there are a few exclusives that would do well to go international. The fan-favorite McSpicy, a chicken sandwich that is almost a Spicy McCrispy, but not quite, has long been loved by UK McD’s fans. Meanwhile, its Sweet Chili Chicken wraps are a perfect lunchtime option, and meet the UK’s love of all things sweet chili sauce (honestly, we can’t get enough of it, guys). 

As yet, there’s no word on when the Mini Egg Frappe will be released, and no official line from McDonald’s – but as Mini Eggs have started appearing in stores, it’s probably not too long until it drops. Until then, Shamrock Shake season is upon us, so customers on both sides of the Atlantic can get their fill of creamy drinks from everyone’s favorite monolithic fast food chain.
