M&M’s Is Mixing Things Up (Literally)

Big things are happening at M&M’s this summer. To kick off Pride Month, the brand announced today that it will be partnering with rapper Lil Nas X “to harness the power of music and connect with fans in a fresh way.” The iconic candy brand apparently wants to make it part of its mission to help “create a world where everyone feels they belong.” It’s all a touch vague if well-intentioned, but if M&M’s fans are looking for something to hang their hats on, there’s always this …

The company recently announced that it’s coming out with a new product later in the summer and it’s going to be absolutely nuts—literally. But not just nuts: also, brownies! That’s right, we can have it all. M&M’s are set to release their third mixed pack (the first being: white, milk, and dark peanut, and the second: peanut, peanut butter, and original). The new pack is set to hit shelves in August (which seems too far away) and will include, as you may have already guessed, both Peanut M&M’s and Fudge Brownie M&M’s. They’ll come in purple and yellow packaging and will be available in the big, resealable sharing size as well as the classic share size (the size you see in most grocery store checkouts).

You may be wondering why they would choose these two flavors specifically, when there are so many other options. Why not crunchy cookie, marshmallow, and plain M&Ms together to make a s’mores pack? Or why not mint and fudge brownie to make mint brownie? Or why not peanut, raspberry, key lime, coffee nut, and mint, just to mess with our minds?

It seems there was a method to M&M’s madness, because apparently this particular flavor combo of peanut and brownie was “requested more than 35,000 times on social media.” So Mars Wrigley (M&M’s parent company) was willing to bet that “shoppers won’t be able to get enough of this nutty, chocolatey mix that combines tastes and textures into one bag.” And I gotta admit: as much as it pains me to be just another predictable cog in the candy consuming machine, I won’t be able to get enough of this “nutty, chocolatey mix” either. Now the challenge is waiting until August.
