Well folks, if you’ve been keeping an eye on the news, you may not be having a Baja Blast right now, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things to look forward to. That’s right, a new Mountain Dew flavor called Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus is hitting stores this month. But that’s not all—Guacamole Doritos (yes, the very same ones from back in 2006) are making their much-anticipated return. Let’s just say, April is shaping up to be a big month for Mountain Dewers everywhere.
What does “Baja Cabo Citrus” even taste like? And will it pair well with Guacamole Doritos?
I have never been to Cabo, so I can’t say for sure if their citrus tastes any sort of Cabo-specific way. That said, images indicate that this new Mountain Dew flavor will come in both regular and zero sugar versions (the only Baja Mountain Dew besides regular Baja Blast to do so), and that it will be “Tropical Citrus Punch” flavored. Now you may be thinking “Hold on a dang second: Isn’t normal Baja Blast Tropical Lime flavored? Is that not already a tropical citrus punch of sorts?!” to which I would say, very astute observation, ossifer—and after doing some digging on Mtn Dew Wiki (the Dew fans dew be documenting), I dew in fact think the citrus in question this time is tangerine. A Pepsi employee who tried the new Mountain Dew flavor said on Reddit that it reminds them of Mountain Dew Livewire (which is orange flavored) mixed with original Mountain Dew. Plus, the liquid is orange.
Now, do I think tangerine-lime soda goes with guacamole? Yes, yes I do. Guacamole Doritos supposedly taste similar to Cool Ranch but they’re green—that’s according to folks in Canada, where Guacamole Doritos returned to shelves in 2023. Personally, I don’t see how this combo could be bad. It’s basically orange-lime soda with Cool Ranch Doritos, and as I’m writing this, I don’t think there is anything I could possibly be craving more right now.
And if you, like me, are mountin’ your horse and getting ready to ride over to the store and “Do the Dew,” I say hold that horse just a little while longer. Baja Cabo Citrus Mountain Dew won’t start hitting shelves until April 21, while the Guacamole Doritos will start rolling out on April 28. Both appear to be limited-time offerings, so if you end up liking either of these, vote with your dollars, people! Show the dewers high up on the official mountain (I assume the brand is run from a high altitude cave) what to dew, and maybe, just maybe, they will let us keep one of these bad boys permanently.
