Publix Is Adding 3 New Pub Subs (and 1 New Sandwich)

It’s no secret that we’ve got a lot of time for Publix here at Sporked. What can we say? We’re a fan of its food! We like its bread. We like its extensive range of ice cream. And we like its subs, a lot. So, obviously, when the Florida-based store is out here saying that it’s releasing three new sub flavors, and a new sandwich to boot, we’re gonna give it the time of day. How could we not? It would be rude otherwise.

“But what subs are on their way?” you ask. Don’t worry, I’m here to tell ya. 

Publix’s New Pub Subs (Ft. Sandwich)

The store’s three new sub flavors add to its Pub sub range, and all of them have a BBQ twist that makes them directly aimed at summer. They’re also all brisket-based – so if you’re not a fan of slow-cooked beef, you might wanna look away now. We’ve got:

  • Publix Deli Spicy Brisket Sub: A sandwich that starts with smoked brisket and Boar’s Head 3-Pepper Colby Jack, topped with jalapeños, crispy fried onions, and a sweet & spicy BBQ sauce.  
  • Publix Deli Brisket, Lettuce and Tomato Sub: That same smoky brisket is paired with some fresher elements here – namely, lettuce and tomato – and topped with sweet & spicy BBQ sauce. 
  • Publix Southern Style Brisket Sub: This one goes full Southern-style, with smoked brisket, cheddar, dill pickles, fried onions, and (yep, you guessed it!) sweet & spicy BBQ sauce. 

According to Publix, the decision to go hard on the brisket was one made on the basis of quality. “As we looked for the next right protein to build on that legacy, brisket stood out,” said John Godke, Publix’s category manager, in a statement to WFLA News. “During product testing panels, a Texas-based supplier well known for its smokehouse delivered the quality and consistency we were looking for. They helped bring this brisket experience to life.”

You Mentioned a Sandwich…

I did. And that sandwich is Publix’s Deli Stacked Brisket and Brioche Sandwich, which piles a half-pound of smoked brisket into a brioche roll and drizzles it with…you know it…sweet & spicy BBQ sauce. 

And These Are a Hit, Right?

Well, if we’re being totally honest, some people are unconvinced. These subs are available now in Publix stores, and a couple of customers have gotten their hands on them, with one person on Reddit saying that they had “good flavor, but very chewy. Wouldn’t get again.” And we have to admit that was a pretty restrained review…

Others have pointed out how expensive these things are for what you get (the subs hover at around the $16 mark), and although a lot of brisket goes on each sandwich, that might not sway things for you. Honestly, we wouldn’t blame you — everything’s expensive thse days.
