Trader Joe’s New Garlic Shrimp Chips Are Hitting Stores

Here at Sporked, we know a lot about Trader Joe’s chips. Oh, you don’t believe me on that one? I introduce to you our taste test of the best ones, in which we tried almost 20 varieties to figure out which ones came out on top. Or our separate taste tests of its Yellow Curry flavored chips and its BBQ Flavored chips, both of which we enjoyed. Or our discussion, just a few days ago, of the return of its Patio Chips. Yep. We know ball.

So when we found out that Trader Joe’s was bringing out shrimp chips – well, we obviously had to talk about it. So here we are, talking about it. Trader Joe’s Shrimp Chips are here.

Trader Joe’s Shrimp Chips: It’s What We’ve All Been Waiting For

This new snack has been spotted by Trader Joe’s customers in the last few days, who have duly posted about it over on Instagram and Reddit. These new Shrimp Chips have a garlic flavor, and they kinda look like slightly smaller prawn crackers. They come complete with a very Trader Joe’s illustrated graphic on the front, with a diver straddling a shrimp, while the shrimp chips fall around him.

In classic TJ’s fashion, there wasn’t a lot of fanfare about the release of these chips, but we’d imagine they’re rolling out fairly widely across its stores (we reserve the right to be wrong about that, though – you never know with this place). Customers have said that they cost $3.99 a bag, but this could vary from place to place.

The Reviews Are In

Thankfully, the people who have tried these chips so far have been pretty forthcoming about what they think – and they think that they’re pretty damn good. Perhaps the most convincing review has come from a Trader Joe’s crew member, who discussed what they thought on Reddit. “Crew here – we had them in the break room today. Everyone LOVED them! And just the right amount of salt,” they said. Bear in mind that this is a person who likely has tried a lot of Trader Joe’s products, so we trust their opinion.

Others, though, were less convinced. “My opinion is that these are not very good. They aren’t very similar to the ones I get from Asian markets. Those brands like Dandy and Calbee are much tastier than these,” said another person on the same Reddit thread. That customer, though, did concede that the brands they mentioned had spent years perfecting their products, while Trader Joe’s is, at this point, a relative newcomer to the shrimp chips scene – but hey, if people are paying for it, they need to be up to scratch, right?

It’s fair to say, though, that the good responses are outweighing the bad ones, and so we might have a winner on our hands here. TJ’s customers, you know what to do.
