We’re betting these won’t stick around for long…

The latest upcoming addition to Trader Joe’s line of must-have snacks is a version of one of the most popular Korean street food options: a potato cheese stick. Here’s what it is and why you want to put it in your mouth!

What is a Korean-Style Potato Cheese Stick?

If you’ve never had a chance to sample all the goodness that is Korean street food, you may not be aware of the many variations of “corn dog” they offer. But that name is misleading, as they don’t feature a cornmeal batter like the American version. Instead, a Gamja Hot Dog features a hot dog or sausage coated in a sweetened rice flour dough, which gives it lighter, fluffier consistency.

These battered dogs—which can be originally traced back to the Myungrang Hot Dog store chain—have a lot of variations. And one of the most popular isn’t made with a sausage, but instead has a stick of mozzarella cheese, covered in batter, then rolled in diced potatoes, and often panko breadcrumbs, too. Think of it as a cheese stick coated in home fries, and you’ve got the basic idea. (And you probably want one as much as I do, right now.)

What will the Trader Joe’s version be like?

We’re a little short on detail, as all we have is a grainy photo from an internal Trader Joe’s ad that was posted by Instagram user traderjoesobsessed. But it looks like each 9.17 box will come with four sticks of cheesy-potato goodness. There’s no word on when they’ll be hitting stores, however. But I’m hoping it’s really soon.
