Pssst. Hey, you, fervent chocolate lover. I have something to tell you and you’re going to be tempted to argue with me, but just try to stay calm and take this in: Some people don’t like chocolate. It’s true! That rich, sweet, creamy substance you crave every day at approximately 3 p.m.? Yeah, it’s just not for some people. In fact, we have a chocolate skeptic on staff! Her name is Ariana and we love her even if she’s a stone-cold freak who hates chocolate. In fact, she was the perfect person to serve as a special correspondent for our review of the new Vanilla Kit Kat.

No, we’re not talking about the White Kit Kat. That’s coated in white creme; this new Kit Kat is coated in vanilla flavored creme. There is a difference, apparently! I know what you’re thinking. As new Kit Kat flavors go, this one is pret-ty tame. Even if you don’t like chocolate you might be wondering why they didn’t go with something more creative, like caramel apple or horchata or affogato (just spit-balling ideas I would specifically enjoy). Well, Kit Kat did their homework and apparently discovered that “89% of consumers say they like or love the vanilla flavor,” according to a press release. That’s a lot of consumers. In fact, you are probably one of them! So let’s get down to business. Is the new Vanilla Kit Kat good? Let’s discuss.

New Product!

Kit Kat Vanilla

Pros: This is a Kit Kat. Therefore, it is good. I think that an O.G. milk chocolate-coated Kit Kat is basically perfect, so I’m pretty open to embracing simplicity in new Kit Kat flavors. And this is simple in the best way possible—the coating is silky and balanced and tastes a bit like vanilla ice cream. Naturally, Ariana was into it, too. “This would be my preferred Kit Kat, for sure,” she said. But as a chocolate lover, I can vouch for this, too. It’s a nice way to mix things up.

Cons: Okay, I know I just said that simplicity is a virtue, but the vanilla flavor is a little bit boring. It just is! Also, it appears that Vanilla Kit Kat has the same chocolate creme between the wafers that a milk chocolate Kit Kat does—why not make it a vanilla creme? These reminded my colleague Justine Sterling of a more decadent vanilla Quadratini (in a good way), and using a vanilla creme between the wafers would really seal the deal.

Gwynedd Stuart

Howdy! I’m Gwynedd, Sporked’s managing editor. I live in Los Angeles and have access to the best tacos the U.S. has to offer—but I’m a sucker for a crunchy Old El Paso taco night every now and then. I’ve been at Sporked since 2022 and I’m still searching frozen mozzarella sticks that can hold a candle to restaurant sticks. Why you should trust me: I’ve been a journalist for 20 years (yikes), a consumer of food for 40-plus years, and I’m truly hard pressed to think of foods I don’t like (or that I can’t tolerate at the very least). Oh and one time I cooked my way through Guy Fieri’s cookbook and wrote about the journey through Flavortown. What I buy every week: Trader Joe’s Original Savory Thins. Fat free plain yogurt (usually Fage or Nancy’s). Honeycrisp apples. Sweet cream coffee creamer for my at-home Americanos. A frozen cauliflower crust pizza and some jarred mushrooms to top it with. Old El Paso Stand ‘N Stuff taco shells and Gardein Ground Be’f, even though I think “be’f” is a nightmarish contraction. Favorite ranking: Stouffer’s frozen dinners. I don’t own a microwave (I get my cancers the old fashioned way!), so I love taste testing things that I don’t really buy to eat at home. Least favorite ranking: Soy sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love soy sauce—but consuming that much sodium in one sitting is probably illegal in some countries. Our frozen enchilada taste test was a close second; the smell of microwaved corn tortillas still haunts me.
