Ohhhhh *snap* *snap*, breakfast just got spookier for fans of the Netflix series Wednesday. Last week, images of cereal boxes featuring Wednesday Addams herself, Jenna Ortega, began surfacing on Instagram. Makes sense if you think about it. Season two of the popular fantasy-murder mystery Addams Family extravaganza is filming literally as we speak in jolly ol’ Ireland, so the release could have something to do with that. But there’s bad news! At the moment, the new Kellogg’s Wednesday cereal is only on shelves in Canada. Much like Wednesday’s children, we Americans are full of woe, but here’s what we do know so far about this doomy and gloomy new breakfast creation.
So…someone’s gotta ask it: Is Wednesday’s child actually full of cereal? Is the cereal actually good or does it have something to ~hyde~?
Right off the bat (get it? bat? goth theme?), this cereal looks like Cocoa Puffs that shop exclusively at Hot Topic. That is to say, the cereal consists of pitch-black chocolate puffs and brilliantly white vanilla-flavored marshmallows. As for what shape the marshmallows are, in all the images I can find they are sort of non-regular hexagons. My best guess? They are supposed to look like coffins or headstones. Or, and hear me out, they are just white blobs. But the latter seems like kind of a miss if you are going for maximum edible branding in your goth cereal, plus Instagram food news account @markie_devo also thought coffins, so it’s looking like that may have been the intention there.
Now when it comes to the flavor, the packaging says either “cookies & creme” or both that and “biscuits et creme” depending on which social media post you’re looking at. My assumption is that the box that only says “cookies & creme” will be released in the U.S. (whenever we get it), while the box featuring both English and French is the Canadian packaging. The human behind a Canadian Instagram account that tasted them said they do, in fact, taste like chocolate cookies and vanilla, so I have high hopes for this cereal. Plus, I just love the idea of putting on a floppy black wig and playing either the Disney Haunted Mansion soundtrack or some Bauhaus while eating my cereal (depending on the mood). Instagram snack guru @markie_devo also indicated that Kellogg’s Wednesday cereal should be coming to stores in the U.S. “soon,” so there is a chance it will drop closer to Halloween—or I suppose there’s a chance we have to wait until Wednesday season two hits Netflix in 2025. Only time will tell. Until then, we just have to live vicariously through Canada.
