It happens every time a major sporting event comes along: Suddenly, we’re self-proclaimed experts on what we’re watching. So it is with the Winter Olympics. It took us approximately two hours before we were critiquing the athletes’ skiing technique and monobob speed, despite having absolutely no idea how they do all of that stuff in the first place. Really, we should just stick to what we know – and that’s food.

So, when we saw that a massive Nutella pump was making waves at the Olympics, we breathed a sigh of relief. Now we’re on familiar ground. And honestly, we’re obsessed with this thing.

The Massive Nutella Pump Wins Gold!

The supersized Nutella delivery vessel appeared in a TikTok posted by American snowboarder Maddie Mastro, and ever since, people have been obsessed with the thing. We understand why: This thing (which Mastro called a keg) is shaped like a regular jar of Nutella, but is about 50 times the size, and is kitted out with a pump on top that pours out a steady stream of the chocolate spread. It’s the kind of thing that Willy Wonka would have come up with in his early days, before he got more ambitious and started turning kids into blueberries.

Unsurprisingly, people on the good old internet are desperate to get their hands on this thing. “I need to know where this is, for scientific purposes,” said a commenter on Mastro’s TikTok. Sadly, the massive Nutella pump is an item designed for catering and food businesses only, and it isn’t available for mass purchase in the US (although Europeans may well be able to get their hands on it online, if they’re willing to stump up a couple of hundred Euros). Looks like this product will remain the stuff of dreams for now, people.

If There’s One Thing Olympic Athletes Need, It’s Copious Amounts Of Sugary Chocolate Spread

It’s probably no surprise that the Milan Olympic Village is kitted out with this pump, considering that Nutella was born in Italy. The spread was actually originally a response to cocoa shortages during World War 2. Creator Pietro Ferrero (who later founded the company that created Ferrero Rocher) figured out that a spread made from hazelnuts, sugar, and a tiny bit of cocoa could deliver the same luxurious feeling as chocolate, and a classic was born.

And for all those people out there calling the Nutella pump an unhealthy addition to the Olympic Village dining hall, it might be worth remembering that high-level cross-country skiers need around 8,000 calories a day to train and perform effectively. Plus, shouldn’t we be happy that world champions are deriving their energy from sources that are so delicious and so fun to operate? Now, how do we go about installing one of them in our house?
