For anyone who wasn’t entirely absorbed by the performances of the female ice skaters of the Winter Olympics earlier this year, you may be unaware of the jazz sensation and Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey. Okay, okay, you might have known about her lovely melodies and the name she’s simply made for herself from her ridiculously successful jazz and bossa nova music that brings the same essence and energy from tunes like Moonlight Sonata and The Girl From Ipanema into modern conversations. But alas, I’ll take just about any opportunity to bring up Alysa Liu’s artistry, too.

She’s redefined what modern jazz and classical music can sound like in the mainstream and has made it accessible and approachable to a whole new generation. As part of her legacy of protecting art for the youth, she started even started The Laufey Foundation that helps empower young musicians through providing access to music education and instruments.
Celebrating The Arts The Laufey Way
This year marks the fourth year of the artist’s annual celebration of the arts called A Very Laufey Day. This is an international celebration that spans six of the seven continents in the world. And, even if you’re nowhere near any of the participating locations, you can celebrate the arts from home, too. The day is really just an encouragement to interact with whatever art is near to you, whether it be one of the museums listed on the A Very Laufey Day interactive map, reading a book you love, listening to the A Very Laufey Day playlist, or going and getting one of the culinary delicacies that have partnered with A Very Laufey Day.
A Very Laufey Fro-Yo
One of the most exciting food partnerships from A Very Laufey Day is with one of our favorite ice cream companies, Van Leeuwen. In celebration of singer’s endeavors Van Leeuwen has created a special edition Fro-Yo called “A Very Laufey Way” where tart Fro-Yo topped with blueberries and pieces of mochi. And, for a very exciting deal they’re even offering ” A Very Laufey Day BOGO” where your second medium Fro-Yo is free with the purchase of the first on August 23rd.
Participating locations in the United States include Van Leeuwen stores located in New York City, New Jersey, California, Florida, Connecticut, and the DMV area. Fourteen stores across these areas will have the “A Very Laufey Way” Fro-Yo and BOGO deals available, so there’s plenty of opportunity to join in on the fun! Plus, you’re supporting The Laufey Foundation in the process, so it’s a feel good endeavor for everyone involved.
