We Tried the New Oreo Puffs Cereal

Well, it’s finally happened. Sporked is having me write a puff piece. An Oreo Puff piece, to be exact. That’s right, this article is about the new Oreo Puffs Cereal that came along this month to replace their longstanding predecessor, Oreo O’s. I know what you are thinking: “O no! Will this article be double stuffed with Oreo puns?” To which I’d say, don’t worry, they are sandwiched in with the actual information. We’re sure you have a lot of other questions, too: Are Oreo Puffs good? Do they taste like Oreos or even Oreo O’s? Are they worth your hard-earned cereal-purchasing money? Let’s dunk in and see if milk’s favorite cookie is also milk’s favorite cookie’s favorite cereal.

Post Oreo Puffs Cereal

Pros: In the box, Oreo Puffs smell like Oreo creme and a hint of Cocoa Puffs-like cocoa. Eaten dry, the cereal is sweet, lightly cocoa-y, very vanilla-y, and slightly salty. The marshmallows taste very marshamallowy, like marshmallow-flavored ice cream rather than Oreo creme, but the combo of two puffs and a marshmallow tastes a lot like an Oreo. Canonically, Oreos are “milk’s favorite cookie,” so of course we tried the cereal in milk and, whooooo boi, did this elevate the experience. The chocolate flavor becomes more pronounced, the cereal tastes like cold hot cocoa and marshmallows, and it’s a delightful experience.

Now you may be wondering: Does it turn your milk into Oreo milk? I did a test. After five minutes, the cereal was more chocolatey and surprisingly not 100% soggy. Plus, the milk decidedly tasted like cookies and cream ice cream, and I am here for that. As the chef, I recommend letting Oreo Puffs sit in milk for five minutes (or at least until your patience wears Oreo Thin).

Cons: Since Oreo Puffs Cereal claims to be Oreo related, it needs more cocoa. I get that this is supposed to be breakfast, not dessert—but what if I want dessert? What if I am buying Oreo cereal so I can have cookies for breakfast? Don’t get me wrong, Oreo Puffs taste great. Some might even say grrrrrreat. But do they taste like Oreos, especially considering that they’re made with “real oOreo cookie wafers”? No, not really. They taste like Cocoa Puffs but slightly different, plus marshmallows.
