Well, friends, I thought I had seen it all. Pickle Jelly beans, Velveeta-scented nail polish, mayo egg nog—by all rights, I thought there was nowhere left to go. We were already too close to the proverbial sun, but somehow we’re still flying because Panda Express just announced a collab with Compartés in honor of National Comfort Food Day. Yes, that Panda Express. The one with the iconic orange chicken and also the other stuff they undoubtedly serve (I assume…I only go for the orange chicken), and yes, that Compartés, the fancy chocolate company. No, we don’t fully understand it either, but let’s discuss.
Elephant in the room: Are we getting a Panda Express Orange Chicken chocolate bar?
The short answer is, yes—one of the bars is, in fact, orange chicken inspired. The other bars in the collection are inspired by Panda Express Kung Pao Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and, yes, even their Fortune Cookies. What does it mean to be a chocolate bar “inspired” by American Chinese food? Great question, let’s get into it.
The Original Orange Bar is described as a blend of “zesty orange bits and a hint of red chili flakes for a sweet-heat kick in creamy milk chocolate, finished with crispy rice for crunch.” The Kung Pao Bar contains a mix of “dried chili peppers, crunchy peanut bites, and flaky salt—all balanced in rich dark chocolate.” The Honey Walnut Bar is “Panda Express’ sweet-candied walnuts layered with crisp honeycomb and a touch of golden honey in a bar of silky white chocolate.” Lastly, the Fortune Cookie Bar is “crushed Panda Express fortune cookies folded into creamy white chocolate—complete with a special fortune inside.”
Y’all.
Dare I say, these sound…excellent? I now feel I must try them all, which leads me to the next bit of info you need if you, like me, want to go grab some or a couple or all of these for yourself. Turns out, there are only two ways to get them. One way is going to a participating Panda Express location on December 5 and ordering a two-item plate, at which time you will be gifted a free Fortune Cookie Bar. The other way is to buy them on the Compartés website, where they are available now and will remain available while supplies last. So if you want to try these bad boys, we recommend you scoop them up right the heck now because once they sell out, it is unclear if they’ll ever be available again. Or, if only the Fortune Cookie one sounds good to you, you can go get a free one on December 5 and call it a day.
