As of May 2, Spirit Airlines is no more – and it’s been making headlines ever since that fateful day. Following its failure to secure a bailout from the government, the budget airline has cancelled all of its flights, leaving both employees and customers without jobs and transport. As this news isn’t directly related to food, it’s probably not a huge shock that we haven’t talked about it much – but now we have a reason to, thanks to Papa Johns, which has come out of the gate with a slightly left-field offer that it hopes will be welcome to former Spirit customers with leftover points.

Yes, that’s right: You can now use those points for pizza. Here’s the deal.
Spirit Points Mean Pizza at Papa Johns
In a press release, Papa Johns stated that Spirit Airlines’ closure left customers “uncertain and stranded.” The solution? Its “Skies to Pies” scheme, in which it says it’s “inviting eligible former Spirit loyalty members to convert proof of their loyalty into a free pizza.” Given that the bankruptcy process for Spirit may well mean that customers’ loyalty points are ineligible for a refund, this might come as welcome news to some (although, clearly, not as welcome as receiving some kind of reimbursement).
As for Skies to Pies, Papa Johns says that to take part, you should first DM @PapaJohns on Instagram, showing proof that you were a Spirit loyalty member. We’d imagine that a screenshot would suffice, here – and then, the chain says that you should share another screenshot, showing that you’re a Papa Rewards member. If both of these things are verified and approved, you’ll then receive a code for a free, large one-topping pizza. Papa Johns does stress that these will only be available while supplies last, so we’d move quickly.
An Eye-Catching Move
This offer from Papa Johns is the latest in a series of maneuvers from the chain to draw attention. Back in February, it argued that it was worthy of a Michelin star, pairing this with a one-day-only Michelin Dining Experience spearheaded by the brand. Last month, it also announced that it would be teaming up with Pixar to bring out a line of Toy Story-inspired pizzas, ahead of Toy Story 5’s arrival in theaters.
This Spirit-focused move, though, is definitely framed as a more altruistic one by the brand. “We can’t fix a canceled flight, but we can definitely fix dinner,” it says. Look, free pizza is free pizza.
