You can’t walk ten feet in a grocery store without seeing Poppi these days. (There was even a Poppi apparel collection at Target earlier this year.) From Super Bowl ads to the cups on American Idol, this prebiotic soda brand is everywhere. But, until now, this fiber-infused better-for-you soda brand had one gaping hole in their lineup: Where, oh where, was their highly-caffeinated mountain-themed citrus drink? Y’all, our long national nightmare is over. Say hello to Poppi Alpine Blast.

How much does this new Poppi flavor taste like Mountain Dew? We tried it to find out.

Poppi Alpine Blast

New Poppi Flavor!

Poppi Alpine Blast

While most Poppi flavors don’t contain caffeine, three flavors do—including the new Alpine Blast! Poppi’s Classic Cola and Doc Pop both contain 32 milligrams of caffeine per can, while the new Alpine Blast tops the chart at 55 milligrams. All that caffeine comes from green tea, which doesn’t actually make a difference in how it’s processed by the body, but it makes some people feel better.

Pros: I’ve had quite a few pre- and probiotic sodas in my day, and this is sincerely one of my favorites to date. While the flavor isn’t as strong as the iconic Dew it’s imitating, this is absolutely a perfunctory replacement—especially for around a tenth of the sugar. You’re not gonna find a better “healthy” Mountain Dew-alike anywhere else.

Cons: The stevia used to supplement the low sugar content is noticeable, but you’re not getting around that in any of the alternatively-sweetened sodas on the market. Until Alani Nu gets into the healthy soda game, this is your best case scenario.

Where can I find this new Poppi flavor for myself?

As stated earlier, Poppi is everywhere. I found my can of Alpine Blast at Aldi (a weirdly solid place to find new products), but this new Poppi flavor is also available at Target, Amazon, and Instacart. Make sure you look closely when you’re hunting for this one; Poppi’s long-standing Lemon Lime flavor is a similar green hue.

What’s next for Poppi?

Looking at their flavor lineup, there aren’t too many obvious gaps. Alpine Blast is their 16th flavor, so you can imagine they’ve covered most of the standard genres of soda: colas, fruity sodas, root beer, etc. If we’re talking about what I want to see from Poppi, I’d love to try their take on a red cream soda.
