Today, we’ve got our hands on a secret variant of one of the least-consistently-pronounced candies in history. Where did it come from? How long has it been hiding from the general public? Should it exist at all?
A few weeks ago, I went to Hershey’s Chocolate World in the greatest city in the world: Chicago New York City. The last time I was there, I found their exclusive “Ice Cream Shoppe” line of white chocolate bars (check out my review). This time, I found a couple different candies I’ll be reviewing—the first of which is a Reese’s Pieces variant. I absolutely loved the caramel-filled Reese’s Pieces I tried last year; let’s see if the new Reese’s Pieces with Chocolate Cookie variant measures up.

New Reese’s Pieces Flavor!

Pros: This is still chocolate and peanut butter. And nothing made of chocolate and peanut butter can be all bad.
Cons: What the hell is going on here? The texture of this candy is deeply unpleasant. Reese’s Pieces are historically super creamy on account of the peanut butter creme center, but this is the crunchiest crunch to ever crunch. Do you know how weird it feels to dislike these Reese’s Pieces? This wouldn’t have been as jarring if they’d called it some new goofy name, but if you put the name of a candy I’ve been eating for 20 years in my head and then deliver the exact opposite? The reaction I had wasn’t unique either; everyone I offered these to was equally WTF at the Whoppers’ core-esque crunch.

Do I really have to go to NYC to get this candy?
Thankfully, no. While I waited until I was able to pick these up in person to save on shipping/the risk of temperature change during transit, you can order these on Hershey’s webstore. While you’re there, you can check out their other store exclusives, including a batch of internationally-inspired Hershey’s Kisses that I’ll be reviewing soon.
