Sam’s Club Customers Aren’t Happy About A Change To A Simple Item

Come on, Sam’s Club. Don’t start going the way of other retailers with your product changes now. It’s not like Sam’s Club has never changed its items, but this August, we’ve seen two examples of this happening – and both times, customers haven’t been best pleased. The first was at the start of the month, when the store changed its enchiladas, leaving a lot of people very annoyed. The second was a couple of weeks back, when customers noted that its liquid egg whites were feeling a little different.

Sam’s Club Member’s Mark Liquid Egg Whites: Now More Liquid Than Ever

A few weeks ago, a Reddit thread popped up in the Sam’s Club subreddit, with the ominous title “Big change in the egg whites.” The original poster stated that its Member’s Mark Liquid Egg Whites were now coming in different packaging, with a new lid. But the main problem was that the egg whites themselves were now noticeably more watery – and they weren’t the only one who felt this way. “I bought them for the first time in a while last month and I have been trying to figure out why they are so runny,” said another Redditor, who went on to say that they were struggling to finish the last two cartons (these egg whites come in a pack of six). 

According to the product listing on the Sam’s Club website, these egg whites contain one thing, and one thing only: Egg whites. So it’s unlikely there’s been some kind of recipe change here. One Redditor did point out, however, that pasteurization can affect egg consistency, and the most likely answer to this change is that Sam’s Club has changed suppliers for the item, and now, customers are feeling it’s worse overall. And unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated situation.

It isn’t. The thread opened up a wider discussion about the quality of Sam’s Club’s items, with customers saying that they’ve noticed its chicken breasts, chicken thighs, cookies, and steaks have all gone downhill. Another person who claimed to be a team lead in the prepared foods section also said that “A good chunk of our products have changed considerably. Not sure why they have done this but I think personally it’s a lower quality than before.” This mirrors what people were saying about its enchiladas: It wasn’t just shoppers unhappy about them, but employees, too.

The people have spoken. Will we see more examples of Sam’s Club items not passing muster? Maybe. Will Sam’s Club change them back? We couldn’t possibly say. Will this continue to happen at other stores? Almost certainly.
