Move over, Costco – there’s a new top dog in town. Costco has ruled the roost when it comes to in-store hot dogs for decades now. And we get it! They’re huge, they’re cheap, they’re eminently hackable, and they’ve become part of the ritual of going there. But there’s one other place that wants to beat Costco at its own game – and that place is Sheetz. The convenience chain is heralding in what it’s calling the “Summer of the Glizzy,” and (you guessed it!) it’s got a new hot dog for everyone to enjoy.

And this one’s big, folks. Let’s dig in.
The Big Glizzy
Sheetz’s “Summer of the Glizzy” plays right into the ever-rising popularity of the term to describe hot dogs, which has seen a real uptick in the last few months. Millions upon millions of people have used the hashtag #glizzy since March alone, and given that hot dogs are one of the ultimate summer foods, the convenience chain thought now would be the moment to strike.
It’s done that with its Big Glizzy, a new, extra-large customizable hot dog, available at all Sheetz locations across the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest. This Glizzy builds on the previous success that Sheetz has had with its hot dogs, which are its best-selling made-to-order item, and takes it up a notch. Not only is this thing massive, made with an extra-large Nathan’s Famous hot dog, but you can also hit it with eight different cheese options, 14 different spreads (including the Dr Pepper BBQ sauce that returned to Sheetz last month), and 20 toppings. Want a Coney Dog? You got it: Add chili sauce and shredded cheese. Want something simpler? A squirt of ketchup and mustard, and you’re good to go.
Oh, and it starts at just $3.99. Costco better watch its back!
Star Power
Sheetz launched its Big Glizzy by teaming up with Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes, who has lent not just his sports star wattage, but also his age to the store. Skenes is one of the most prominent Gen Z MLB athletes out there, and the idea, we’d imagine, is that his participation helps it tap into a younger, Glizzy-obsessed audience. Hey, hot dogs are universal, folks, but we get what you’re doing there.
Between the Big Glizzy and the new SPAM dog, it’s shaping up to be a banner year in the hot dog world. Get your glizzy on.
