Meat at Aldi. It’s an interesting topic―one that you don’t really stop to think about unless you’re a real fanatic or someone who really cares about the quality of your food. Luckily for you, we’re both here at Sporked. The question at hand is whether or not you should be buying meat at Aldi. Unfortunately, the answer isn’t so black and white. Let’s get into the details.

No Butcher On Site

Talking with the butcher at your local grocery store can be an invaluable experience. They’re able to guide you towards a particular cut of meat for the meal at hand or trim a piece just for you if you need something special. All of Aldi’s meat comes prepackaged so there’s no need for a butcher on site.

Because things come prepackaged, you’re also going to get a limited selection of meats to choose from. A butcher isn’t cutting up every single workable cut off of a steer. They’re taking care of those less than desirable cuts on the backend. If you’re looking for a rarer cut of meat then you’ll probably want to shop elsewhere.

Cheap Meats

Like all things at Aldi, you can get some pretty sick deals on meat at Aldi―which is incredibly hard to pass up, especially in times like these. The fact that Aldi caters to the common cuts of meat means that they’re able to price their meat accordingly. You don’t have to dish up a pretty penny to buy a finer cut of meat. You’re here for ground beef and that’s all they’re going to charge you for.

Quality Concerns

Some customers have complained about quality concerns when it comes to Aldi’s meat. Especially with the chicken breast. You’re likely to find tough, chewy spots in your chicken because they’re made with a focus on quantity more than quality. They have to make that cheap price tag work somehow. I think it’s safe to say that we’re probably better off leaving the chicken where it is.

Is The Price Worth It?

I think this balance to meat at Aldi is fine. I’m certainly not walking into a budget grocery store like Aldi and expecting to find fine dining level filet mignon. We can get our ground beef, pot roasts, and pork chops at a reasonable price. That just leaves more room in our budget for a monthly splurge at the steakhouse.
