April Fool’s Day is always day full of wacky, fake food releases that we wish were real. And this year brought us a few actual releases that maybe some folks wish weren’t. Case in point: Sour Punch Bacon Bites. The American Licorice Company (maker of Sour Punch Bites and Straws) decided to drop this very real product (that you can still buy) on April 1st. Per the website, “Imagine a sweet, syrupy maple flavor vibing with savory bacon as it hits your tastebuds, then bam! A tangy sour kick that’ll make your face do that chef’s kiss thing. Yup, this bacon candy is sweet, savory, AND sour.” Is it as good as they claim? We’ll be the judge of that!

Sour Punch Bacon Bites

Pros: I don’t know if I have ever struggled this much to come up with a “Pro” for a review. The website claims that the bites are sweet, savory, and sour—and they are, I will absolutely give them that much. However…

Cons: There’s little to no maple flavor in sight, and the bacon flavor is less than savory. It has that “fake bacon” flavor, which, when combined with the texture of the Sour Punch bite, almost tastes (and smells) like a dog treat. And the aftertaste is absolutely dreadful. I expected nothing and I’m still let down. Pending an upcoming review of HiSmile’s KFC Fried Chicken flavored toothpaste, this is the worst product I have ever reviewed on Sporked.
