It’s surprising that we still do April Fools’ Day as a society considering how much stranger the news seems to get by the day. Maybe that’s why so many brands are starting to double-dip on the first day of Q2; multiple companies announced products that should be fake, but aren’t! KFC launched fried chicken-flavored toothpaste, Sprecher launched ham and soup-flavored sodas, and PRIME launched a pizza-flavored hydration drink. In this new world where April Fools’ Day doesn’t always mean “fake,” here’s a few new fake products companies announced this year that we wish were real.
AriZona Rizzberry Juice Cocktail
AriZona partnered with The Rizzler of the Costco Guys (if you don’t already know, don’t hurt yourself googling it) to reveal a new juice cocktail: Rizzberry. The can features strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Whether it has a celebrity internet child on the can or not, I’d be very interested in trying “Rizzberry” for myself.
Dr Pepper Tic-Tacs
This one feels like it could be real. For starters, it’d be very strange for Tic Tac to joke about a collaboration with Dr Pepper out of nowhere considering their long-standing real partnership with The Coca-Cola Company. Of all the products on this list, this is the one I most expect will hit shelves—although, probably not in the tiny-can form factor that was teased on Instagram.
Jones Soda Olive Garden-Inspired Variety Pack
Jones Soda has a history of wacky variety packs, ranging from Thanksgiving Dinner and Hanukkah to pop-punk music and Dungeons & Dragons. That said, Jones seems to have left this part of their history behind them—at least for 364 days of the year. This week, Jones teased us with renders of sodas based on Garden Salad, Unlimited Breadsticks, Hearty Minestrone, and Chicken Alfredo. While I don’t necessarily want to taste these flavors, I would absolutely love for Jones Soda to get back into the experimental game that brought them early acclaim.
Pringles X Auntie Anne’s Butter & Salt Chips
While the product image posted by the brand doesn’t actually feature a pretzel, a soft pretzel-flavored Pringle would be a revelation—and I hope they get the message from all the folks in the comments begging for them. If Goldfish can figure out how to turn a pretzel into their proprietary shape, I’m sure Pringles can do the same. In the meantime, I wouldn’t kick a plain butter and salt-flavored Pringle out of bed either.
Smucker’s Jamba Electric Berry Lemonade Jam
Jamba’s Electric Berry Lemonade features “a blend of lemonade, mixed berry juice blend, strawberries, raspberry sherbet, fat-free vanilla frozen yogurt, peaches, and blue spirulina.” Does that sound like a lot to fit into a jar of jam? Sure! But in a world where Hidden Valley Ranch is invading the frozen pizza aisle, there’s no reason we can’t have a Jamba-branded jam take the pole position of “peanut butter’s friend.” And honestly, when’s the last time you heard something interesting from the folks at Smucker’s? Get out there and do something crazy, guys.
