In 2025, Dr Pepper is adding Dr Pepper Blackberry to their permanent lineup of flavors. And the crowd goes… mild. I’m sure it’ll be good, but in a post-Oreo Coke world, blackberries are not moving the needle. (While we’re talking about it, here’s a free exclusive from yours truly: Dr Pepper Cherry is getting a redesign in 2025 to match fellow fruity flavors Strawberries & Cream and Blackberry.) So, with a distinctly normal Dr Pepper variant on the horizon, I decided to take a look at some of the rarest Dr Pepper variants with which we’ve been blessed.
I won’t be covering every offshoot of Dr Pepper ever made; I’m limiting this list to soda flavors that have been produced in the last few years—the ones you might actually be able to get your hands on. With that in mind, I’d like to apologize in advance to the diehard fans of the long-discontinued Red Fusion, TEN, and Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr Peppers. (Actually, TEN fans get no apology; those ads did not age well.)
Here are seven rare Dr Pepper flavors, ranked from least to most rare. How many have you tried? Tell us in the comments!
- Dr Pepper Dark Berry
-
Since I’m listing these from least to most rare, let’s start with a Dr Pepper flavor that sees a full national release every few years. Last seen on shelves in 2022 to promote Jurassic World: Dominion, this ambiguously berry-flavored Dr Pepper variant definitely has a fanbase. When I first posted about the upcoming Dr Pepper Blackberry, I got plenty of comments praying that it’ll just be a reskin of this modern classic.
- Dr Pepper Vanilla Float
-
This vanilla ice cream-flavored Dr Pepper variant was released nationwide back in 2014. I actually remember really enjoying this flavor when it first came out—mostly when mixed with Disaronno on a camping trip. In 2017, Vanilla Float returned to shelves in certain regions and it seems like it’s still produced to this day. Despite not being listed as a current flavor on the Dr Pepper website, there are cans on eBay with a March 2025 expiration date. Should I order one for a review here on Sporked? Get in the comments, gang.
- Dr Pepper Cherry Vanilla
-
This might be the first soda I ever fell in love with. When I started making soda a core part of my personality, I bought a promotional t-shirt for this soda off eBay. While this Dr Pepper flavor is still listed on the Dr Pepper website (in both regular and diet variants), I can’t find any unexpired cans available on the secondhand market. That said, there’s one place you can find a version of this pretty reliably: Coca-Cola Freestyle machines.
- Dr Pepper Berries and Cream
-
This Dr Pepper flavor walked so Dr Pepper Strawberries & Cream could run. The flavor itself was made up of a mix of blueberries, raspberry, and vanilla. First widely released all the way back in 2006, Dr Pepper Berries and Cream came back in 2022 as a sweepstakes prize following the Berries and Cream lad going viral on TikTok. Specifically, Dr Pepper Berries and Cream came back after an ad for Berries and Cream Starburst went viral. They don’t even have the same parent company—the flavors just have the same name!
- Dr Pepper Fansville Reserve
-
If writing this piece has taught me anything, it’s that 2022 was a wild year for Dr Pepper. Case in point, this bourbon-flavored Dr Pepper was given out through a virtual scratch-off game available to “Pepper Perks” loyalty club members. Per the press release, Dr Pepper Fansville Reserve had “subtle hints of cherry, vanilla, chocolate, and caramel.” I wasn’t able to secure a can at the time, and they’re going for pretty absurd prices on the secondhand market. This is definitely #2 on my list of rare Dr Pepper variants I haven’t tried. No spoilers, but #1 is just a few paragraphs away.
- Dr Pepper FANtastic Chocolate
-
Chocolate-flavored Dr Pepper is so good, y’all. I’ve mentioned this soda in a few other pieces here on Sporked because this is truly my all-time best example of “this shouldn’t work, and yet.” This was a Pepper Perks reward offered back in 2021; I definitely didn’t make multiple accounts to get around the one-redemption-per-account limitation. If I could pick any Dr Pepper flavor on this list to see a wide release, this would be my gift to the world.
- Dr Pepper Icing On The Cake
-
Here it is, folks: the rarest Dr Pepper flavor ever produced to date. Dr Pepper Icing On the Cake was a birthday cake-flavored soda sent out to select Pepper Perks members back in 2018 and 2019. Trying to get my hands on this soda is what led me down the path to my funny little brand of beverage journalism. Time will tell whether this Dr Pepper flavor ever comes back. But Mountain Dew actually sold a cake-flavored soda a few years ago, so anything’s possible.
