This New Coke Flavor Tastes Like Oreos (and Vice Versa)

Folks, I have been waiting to tell you about this for a long time. I have heard rumors this collaboration was coming as far back as January, and I’ve been counting down the days until the truth was revealed. It’s true, it’s damn true: Oreo and Coca-Cola are getting all up in each other’s business and we get to taste the results. In short, we’re getting Oreo Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Oreos. Before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s crack open this sandwich cookie for the fizzy details, y’all.

What? What? What!? Oreo Coke?!

Oreo is releasing a Coca-Cola-flavored cookie. Coca-Cola is releasing an Oreo-flavored Coca-Cola. Full transparency, I’ve been covering as much Oreo and Coca-Cola news as I could this year purely so I could establish the dominance needed to cover this release. I was born for this. Both products are equally mind-boggling, so let’s talk about them one at a time. (That said, when my samples come in, you already know I’m dipping the Coca-Cola Oreo in the Oreo Coca-Cola; I am all about my Oreo ouroboroses.)

So how does this new Oreo flavor taste like Coca-Cola?

Previous cola-flavored Oreos have only gone as far as a flavored creme with popping candy, but Oreo pulled out all the stops for this one. From top to bottom, we have a golden Oreo cookie (colored red, as all Coca-Cola lids are) embossed with various Coca-Cola designs, the classic white Oreo creme, and a chocolate Oreo cookie flavored with real Coca-Cola syrup. As if that wasn’t enough, both cookies contain popping candies to add a real fizzing sensation to this sandwich cookie. They made the cookie feel carbonated. Do you people understand what this is going to do to my brain?

And how does this new Coke flavor taste like an Oreo?

There have been some incomprehensible Coca-Cola Creations flavors to date, but this new Coke flavor blows all of them out of the water. “Fizzy Cookie Flavored” Coca-Cola is hard to imagine and the official description doesn’t give many clues. I’ve been told to expect a “smooth fusion” of Coca-Cola and Oreo cookies. As weird as chocolate soda might sound, Dr Pepper actually offered a fantastic version of that concept a few years ago (I hope it gets a wide release someday; I sound crazy every time I talk about how good it was). We’ll all be the judge of how Coca-Cola’s version fares when these products hit shelves.

When am I going to be able to buy these soda-snack chimeras?

Soon! Both products will be hitting shelves starting September 9. If you can’t wait that long, Walmart.com will be launching a presale for both products later this month. Head over to Oreo.com to sign up to be notified when the presale launches. To celebrate this groundbreaking collaboration, Forever 21 is launching a new “Bestie Mode” merchandise line featuring apparel and accessories inspired by both brands; those products will land online and in select stores in mid-September. If they sell a shirt featuring the Coca-Cola cap/Oreo cookie heart graphic, I might have to pick one up for my increasingly work-related closet.
