We’ve done a lot of taste tests—but the results of our Sprite flavors taste test might be the most shocking. I mean, look, the number one best Sprite flavor is still a Sprite. So, I guess it’s not that surprising. But, spoiler alert, the best Sprite flavor is not original Sprite. In fact, original Sprite isn’t even in the number two spot!
How we tasted Sprite flavors
We chilled down all of the different Sprite flavors in the fridge—no warm cans here. Then we poured each into little cups and sampled. While we primarily judged all Sprite flavors by those sips, we did take some swigs straight from the bottle or can, just to see how the soda changed. And while we stand by our ranking of the different flavors of Sprite as judged by how they tasted from a cup, I should note that Sprite, in general, is better out of an aluminum can or glass bottle. Don’t bother decanting.
What we looked for in the best Sprite flavors
Sprite is a lemon-lime soda, so the best Sprite flavor—even if it isn’t original Sprite—should showcase those citrus notes. We also looked for a balance of sweet and zesty. And we definitely took carbonation into consideration, as well. None of the canned or bottled Sprites we tasted lived up to the “crispy” Sprite you get from the fountain at McDonald’s, but some had better bubbles than others.
Here are nine Sprite flavors, ranked from worst to best.

- Sprite Lymonade
-
Sprite Lymonade is just worse Sprite. It tastes like Sprite if you took out some sugar and added some bottled lime juice. It might be okay if you spiked it with vodka, but on its own, it’s simply a pale imitation of the real deal.

- Sprite Zero Sugar
-
For a zero sugar soda, Sprite Zero Sugar is not terrible. It tastes a lot like Sprite—just flatter, both in terms of bubbles and flavor. There’s a better zero sugar Sprite out there, though. Just wait.

- Sprite Chill Strawberry Kiwi
-
The newest Sprite flavor on this list, Sprite Chill Strawberry Kiwi really channels Capri Sun Kiwi Strawberry. And Capri Sun Kiwi Strawberry is pretty good (it’s a top five Capri Sun flavor, according to our ranking). But this isn’t a Capri Sun ranking. It’s a ranking of Sprite flavors. And there’s not enough lemon-lime Sprite flavor in this Sprite Chill. Is it bad? No. But is it Sprite? Also no.

- Sprite Tropical Mix
-
This tropical flavored Sprite is totally fine. It’s sweet—though not as sweet at Sprite Chill Strawberry Kiwi—and generically tropical. I wish it had a more specific tropical flavor—mango, pineapple, guava, anything. Instead, it ends up tasting like a generic tropical soda. And, once again, it’s missing Sprite’s signature lemon-lime flavor.

- Sprite Chill Cherry Lime Zero Sugar
-
Here’s the best Sprite flavor to buy if you’re a zero sugar guy. It’s seriously better than regular Sprite Zero Sugar, thanks to the cherry flavor, which helps mute the artificial sweetener flavor. Plus, there’s some actual lime flavor, as well, to let you know that you’re actually tasting a flavored Sprite, not just any old soda.

- Sprite Cherry
-
Once only available in certain regions, Sprite Cherry is now available nationwide. Hooray! Because it’s shockingly good. It does have a bit of a medicinal cherry scent, but it doesn’t taste like cough syrup at all. It tastes like you left a red Tootsie Pop in a Sprite in the best way possible. Importantly, it has that lemon-lime backbone, which is why it’s in the top five Sprite flavors.

- Sprite
-
Hey, look! It’s regular Sprite in the number three spot! Shocking, I know. Look, Sprite is good. But you need to drink it out of the can. Poured into a cup it goes flat pretty quickly. Out of the can, you get those good, tongue-tingling bubbles. It’s sweet but not too sweet, balanced out by the lemon-lime flavor. If you love Sprite you are, of course, going to be satisfied by a can of classic Sprite. But if you’re a true Sprite enthusiast, there are better Sprite flavors out there.

- Mexican Sprite
-
Mexican Sprite (aka Sprite made with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup) is really worth the hype. Not only do you get the satisfaction of drinking it from that beautiful bottle, but the flavor is mellower, rounder, sweeter, and gentler than regular Sprite. Plus, the bubbles are super tiny and spritzy. Those bubbles amplify the citrus flavor, giving you a more pure Sprite flavor. If you’re looking for the best Sprite flavor (classic), Mexican Sprite is the one for you.

- Sprite Chill Cherry Lime
-
Yes, the best Sprite flavor of all the Sprite flavors is Sprite Chill Cherry Lime. While none of us really detected the cooling effect it’s supposed to have, we all loved the flavor. It’s vibrant and flavorful and really, really yummy. And it’s innovative! You might think you’ve had a cherry lime soda before, but not like this. This really is a new flavored Sprite. In the same way that Cherry Coke is an enhanced flavor of Coke, Sprite Chill Cherry Lime is an amped up, enhanced flavor of Sprite. It’s sweet, zesty, and tart at the same time. I know we’ll get some haters in the comments, but after trying all the flavors of Sprite, we’re confident in our decision that this is the best Sprite flavor.
