As it currently stands, food brands and restaurants aren’t talking about the midterm elections that much. Although some brands that integrate activism into their mission, like Ben & Jerry’s, have launched programs that raise awareness of and support democratic processes, the majority of them are focusing on Halloween and Christmas. Between those, however, another ‘holiday’ lies, which I’m sure we’ll all be celebrating. Yes, it’s finally here: National Sandwich Day.

I wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know that existed, to be honest. The vast majority of people don’t have it in their calendars. But Subway does, so it knows that National Sandwich Day falls on November 3…the same day, of course, as the midterms. So it’s decided to take matters into its own hands. The good news for you is that this means it’s bringing back a few fan favorites.
Subway’s Own Personal National Sandwich Day
This year, Subway says (in its press release) that it’s “elected to give sandwiches their own moment,” by moving its own celebrations of it to the week before. As such, on Tuesday, October 27, it’s dropping a couple of returning menu items and a BOGO offer for its Sub Club members. Starting next Tuesday, the chain’s Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub and its Caramel Apple Cookie will be back for a limited time.
These items last appeared in 2014 and 2021, respectively, so Subway’s reaching into the vaults here – and in case you’d forgotten, its Fritos Chicken Enchilada Sub is a combo of rotisserie-style chicken in enchilada sauce, with Fritos, Baja chipotle sauce, Monterey Cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions. The Caramel Apple Cookie, meanwhile, combines apple pieces, caramel chips, and salted caramel crunch, and it’s crowned with a caramel icing drizzle. It really feels like fall now, folks.
You Mentioned A BOGO Offer…
I did. Alongside these two comeback kids, Sub Club members will be able to score a free footlong sandwich with the purchase of another, from next Tuesday through November 8. These menu items will also be around for a little while – so if you’re planning on celebrating National Sandwich Day proper on November 3, or you need to refuel after voting, they’ll be there.
Interestingly, Subway’s taking the road less travelled here in terms of returning items and deals (although it did have its own Halloween promotion, so it didn’t miss a trick there) — and in a sea of holiday menus, this one definitely stands out. I guess it’s also smart to try not to compete with the biggest political date of the year. I do have to say, though, that this feels like another example of a little-known National Food Day being, perhaps, elevated beyond its station and given an offer for the sake of it. But hey. If it means that fan favorites are back on the menu, that’s not the worst thing in the world.
