Popcornopolis Has Something Spicy for Takis Lovers

We are here today to have a chat about Popcornopolis, not to be confused with Zootropolis, the title of Zootopia in the UK for some reason (I learned this on an international flight and at the time wrote it off as a giant glitch in the matrix). Popcornopolis is a popcorn brand known for having many different flavors (from kettle to cheese to caramel, and a lot more) and for selling said flavors in iconic plastic cones and giant tins. But get this: They are spicing things up this year (literally) in an unprecedented collab with Takis, the (objective) best chip on earth, to create—you guessed it—Takis Fuego popcorn.

How did this happen? Is Takis Fuego Popcorn from Popcornopolis any different from the already existing Takis Fuego popcorn? (Which, by the way, is excellent. Highly recommend.)

Well my food-curious friendos, I did some digging, and it turns out that in November 2021, Grupo Bimbo, the company that owns Takis, bought Popcornopolis. So in terms of “how did this happen?” that’s pretty much it right there. But Popcornopolis popcorn, at least in my experience, is more fluffy, more uniform, and more intensely flavored than most other pre-popped popcorns out there. So while Takis Fuego Pop! (the existing Takis Fuego popcorn) is delicious, there is a significant chance that this Popcornopolis version could be even more ~fire~ (pun 100% intended). My “professional” opinion is that the Popcornopolis version will have larger individual kernels, be a deeper red, and be more uniformly covered in that sweet, sweet Takis dust. It will also use non-GMO popcorn and be popped in coconut oil, as are many of the Popcornopolis popcorn flavors. To really know what the difference is taste-wise, however, will all just have to go try some for ourselves.

As for where to find it, these illustrious purple (yes, purple! like Taki bags!) cones are available now on the Popcornopolis website, as well as at Walmart, Sam’s Club, 7-Eleven, Target, HEB, and Meier for around five bucks, depending on where you shop. So pop on over and give it a try! Let me know in the comments if it’s significantly different from other Takis popcorn. I may have to do a cheeky little taste test myself. Worst-case scenario, I get two identically delicious, incredibly tart, and spicy popcorns to enjoy over the holidays, which, admittedly, would be pretty fuego.
