As far as I know, Baskin-Robbins is not typically known for being on the cutting edge of food trends. It’s more of a classic, family-friendly establishment. So, you can imagine my surprise when they were quick to jump on the 2026 food trend taking over my Instagram feed: Dotcakes. Dotcakes, a NY-based company, are available to purchase at Butterfield Market and their flagship store in Roslyn, New York, so there is much room to expand the treat on a more national level. Baskin-Robbins is taking that opportunity.

I mean, Baskin-Robbins has even taken action while the dessert is still on trend―an impressive feat. It’s a remarkable accomplishment for a national chain to be able to execute a new product with such quick turn-around due to the inevitable product development required. And, listen, I know what you might be thinking: Dotcakes aren’t made of ice cream. But, just like Shake Shack’s limited launch of a Dotcake shake, Baskin-Robbins is willing to take the leap and put their own spin on the viral dessert.
Baskin-Robbins’ Dotcake Execution
The treat from Baskin-Robbins launched on June 18th. But, it doesn’t follow the exact Dotcake format, as you could probably assume. At Baskin-Robbins, they’re maximizing on what a dot cake ice cream crossover would really entail. Dotcakes are traditionally made with a thick layer of cake that is topped with frosting and a nonpareil sprinkle crust on top.
The Baskin-Robbins ice cream cup follows a similar format with a layer of cake at the bottom and two scoops of ice cream in the middle―but just where you thought that the ice cream would serve in place of the frosting, it doesn’t. It’s topped with frosting anyways and then dipped in a layer of nonpareil sprinkles.
The sweet offer doesn’t end there though. To make the deal even more rich, Baskin-Robbins is leaving the ice cream flavor up to the customer. So the viral dessert is made into more of a choose-your-own-adventure treat than ever before. Baskin-Robbins has 31 core flavors of ice cream to choose from, so the world is really your oyster.
