These Are The Best Items To Order At Sheetz, According To A Pennsylvanian

As a resident of the great state of Pennsylvania, I must admit that I’m a shucker for Sheetz. The quirky fill-up spot is one side of The Great Gas Station Wars of PA. The ongoing feud between Wawa and Sheetz is a significant part of Pennsylvania culture—pick a side or get out! I’ll keep my favorite of the two a secret, but I’ll divulge that I never pass up an opportunity to snag some grub from Sheetz.

Having been shnacking at Sheetz on the regular since I moved to The Keystone State, I’ve been able to discern what’s delicious and what’s dastardly. So don’t worry about going to town on the chain’s entire menu—I’ve done all the dirty work for you. Here are the menu items that I believe are, objectively, the most impressive from Sheetz’s massive repertoire of gas station snacks.

The Big Mozz

This is one of those foods that tastes delicious, but you’d never, ever want to put it on Instagram. The Big Mozz is an atrocious beast of a burger, but it demands respect. Sure, the meat patty looks weirdly grey and the provolone is definitely giving plastic left out in the sun too long, but the mozzarella sticks on top of the patty and the thick, tangy marinara make biting into this hefty burger an experience you won’t soon forget. The Big Mozz may not be looksmaxxing, but it’s certainly tastemaxxing.

Caramel-Vanilla Iced Latte

As a coffee fanatic and an avid road tripper, I love a gas station where I can get genuine espresso drinks. Sheetz doesn’t disappoint with any of their café-style drinks, but there’s something to be said for the caramel-vanilla iced latte. Each flavor individually reads as overkill on my taste buds, but together, they’re never too much of a good thing—plus they do a good job of accentuating the natural toasty, nutty notes of the espresso that Sheetz uses. The coffee also isn’t too bold and dark, which is nice for a refreshing iced drink.  

Breakfast Quesadilla

Fair warning: Don’t order the Sheetz breakfast quesadilla unless you’re really, really hungry. This absolute unit of a ‘dilla comes jam-packed with your favorite breakfast goodies for a handheld morning meal (or anytime meal—there’s no limit to when you can order breakfast at Sheetz). I like mine with spicy peppers, scrambled eggs, and sausage. It’s massive enough to share, and comes at a great price, so consider swapping out your regular breakfast sandwich for this incredibly underrated way to start the day.

Chicken Shnuggetz

I normally scoff at the idea of chicken nuggets from the gas station (Wendy’s or bust), but Sheetz does their nuggets—or, rather, “Shnuggetz”—right. They have an incredibly crispy and perfectly oily exterior, while the inside is extra moist and tender. Sheetz is famous for their dipping sauces, and just about every one is a slam dunk with the Shnuggetz, but my personal favorites are Buffalo Garliz Blitz and Jalapeño Ranch.

French Toast Sticks

I don’t know what it is about French toast sticks, but I can’t get enough of them—especially the way Sheetz does them. They’re absolutely loaded with sugary, cinnamony goodness, and then have that not-too-crunchy-but-not-too-soft texture that’s so hard to find in fast food French toast. Make sure to tack on a side of the Cinnabon-brand cream cheese frosting for dipping; add a little frosting and a little maple syrup to every bite if you know what’s good for you.
