It’s the Guild of Fine Foods, and each year they put on something called the Great Taste Awards through which they establish the best versions of thousands of different food products. The highest rated items are awarded a three star rating (think, a Michelin star), but this is an incredibly prestigious distinction. So, when we saw that one low-alcohol beer actually achieved such a rating we were immediately intrigued. First off, it’s important to establish that the Guild of Fine Foods is a primarily British organization. So, despite the fact that they accept entries into the Great Taste Awards from many international companies to be judged, it’s reasonable to expect that not all of the personal favorites we have here stateside were considered in this evaluation. Regardless, the brew the Guild chose as their number one preferred in the low-alcohol and no-alcohol category was Missing Link Brewing’s Pygmy Hazy Table Beer.

The Missing Link Brewery is an English company operating out of West Hoathly, and, unsurprisingly, they have actually already achieved this honor from the Guild before with different brews. Eleven of their beers overall have been awarded different star distinctions over the years, but four brews have achieved the impressive three-star award. This Pygmy Hazy Table Beer is simply continuing the brand’s legacy of success.

What Makes This Beer So Special?

This Pygmy Hazy Table Beer from Missing Link Brewery is a low-alcohol New England India Pale Ale. Not only is it the only low-alcohol beer that was awarded a three-star distinction in the Great Taste Awards, but it was one of only five beers across all categories that were given the award.

Director of Missing Link Brewery Jeremy Cook says that this brew in particular drinks “like a much bigger beer,” despite its low alcohol percentage. It has a clean taste, is fruity and citrus forward, has a strong hop flavor, and cloudy appearance.
