This New Costco Item Brings Together Our Two Favorite Pastries

When coming out with any kind of new flavors to spice up old pastries, it’s always an easy and obvious choice to go with something cinnamon roll inspired or flavored. Especially of the breakfast pastries, cinnamon rolls are among the most classic and no-brainer items to have on a menu or in a pastry case.

I think one of the only other breakfast pastries that are as universal and beloved as a cinnamon roll are croissants. The beauty of a croissant is that it can be a standard butter croissant, ready to take on all things sweet and savory, or you can go all the way with a chocolate croissant or even the ultra decadent almond croissant. Basically, it’s really hard to mess a good croissant up with how you choose to fill it.

Cinnamon-Filled Heaven

Costco seems to have an abundance of good ideas coming out of their bakery section at the moment between their viral tiramisu cheesecake and this new release. Their newest creation is a hybrid between a cinnamon roll and a croissant and they’re calling it their Twice Baked Cinnamon Filled Croissants. To say the least, this is the kind of news that keeps us going.

Imagine this: the most buttery, most decadent French pastry sliced open and filled with the very part of cinnamon rolls that makes them über rich and delicious. After sandwiching it back together, it gets glazed with simple syrup and baked with cinnamon streusel on top. Let’s say you’re not into almond frangipane, but love the crispy, crackling nature of an almond croissant. If that’s the case, then these maybe the cozy alternative you have been looking for. 

Why We’re So Excited

The extra streusel on top not only sounds like it’s gonna give it some nice extra crunch, but it sounds like it’s going to bring it into a bit of a layered coffee cake situation, too. I mean, the layers for it are pretty much the same. First, a layer of buttery carbohydrates. Then, a layer of cinnamon filling baked into the middle with another layer of that buttery rich pastry on top. Finally, finish it off with a cinnamon streusel on top. Swap in the buttery carbs for croissants or cake, and you’re perfectly describing both desserts.

And, while I could wax poetic all day about how insanely decadent and delicious these new croissants sound, there are some other details that make this a very interesting new launch as well. The box of six will only run you about $10, depending on location. Considering that the price of an almond croissant at a bakery ranges anywhere between $3 and $8 at most places in the United States, these Costco croissants will only run you about $1.70 a piece.
