Ever woken up just craving moss? Me neither. But apparently enough people have, because Erewhon is now selling it by the jar.

Erewhon has released a lineup of Sea Moss Gels, colorful wellness blends made with wild-harvested sea moss sourced from the Caribbean. Available in varieties including Golden Sol, Neptune Blue, and Cosmic Berry, the gels are marketed as supporting everything from energy and immunity to gut health.

Wait, What Even Is Sea Moss?

Despite sounding like something you accidentally step on during a beach walk, sea moss is actually a type of red algae that grows in coastal waters. It’s rich in minerals and has developed a devoted following in wellness circles, where it’s blended into smoothies, drinks, and supplements. In other words, what was once just ocean plant life has somehow become a wellness status symbol.

Sea moss has quietly become one of the internet’s favorite functional ingredients over the past few years, appearing in everything from TikTok wellness routines to celebrity smoothie recipes. The appeal largely comes from its mineral content, though many of the more dramatic health claims floating around online remain difficult to prove conclusively.

Erewhon’s Most Erewhon Product Yet?

Of course, Erewhon wasn’t going to stop at plain sea moss. The luxury grocer has turned it into a range of brightly colored wellness blends that look less like algae and more like something you’d expect to find in a skincare routine.

Golden Sol incorporates ingredients like ginger and turmeric, Neptune Blue gets its vivid color from blue spirulina, and Cosmic Berry leans into fruit-forward flavors. Together, the range transforms “eating algae” into something that feels considerably more influencer aesthetic.

The collection retails for $88 for a two-jar bundle, which is exactly the kind of price point that makes you pause, blink twice, and wonder if ocean plants have been hiding their true value this entire time. Judging by how quickly it’s selling out, the answer appears to be yes.

Why Sea Moss Keeps Trending

Part of the reason sea moss has become so popular is that it combines two trends consumers can’t seem to get enough of: functional foods and aspirational wellness. People don’t just want snacks anymore―they want snacks that promise glowing skin, better digestion, increased energy, and possibly inner peace.

Whether sea moss actually delivers all of that is up for debate. But as far as wellness branding goes, it’s hard to deny the ingredient has had an impressive glow-up. It’s gone from slimy ocean algae to luxury grocery store staple in just a few years.

So no, most of us probably aren’t waking up craving moss anytime soon. But if Erewhon has taught us anything, it’s that with the right packaging, enough wellness buzzwords, and an $88 price tag, almost anything can become aspirational.
