These New Trader Joe’s Pretzels Are a Party in Your Mouth

It’s a very interesting time for Trader Joe’s to drop celebration cake pretzels. Have you seen what’s going on around us, TJ’s? Not really an environment that creates a celebratory mood. Maybe it’s more of a wishful thinking kinda vibe. Or maybe Joe is just hoping that these pretzels are the thing you’ll be celebrating. I guess that’s our cue to figure out if they really are worthy of a shindig.

The first thing you’ll notice when you look at the package is that these are “mini pretzels with a vanilla frosting flavored candy coating, topped with rainbow nonpareils.” Essentially, it’s just an incredibly long way of saying that these are going to be very sweet.

And really these are really just your average yogurt- or white fudge-covered pretzels with sprinkles embedded in the coating. I do think they could have shaved off the “celebration” and just called these “cake” flavored pretzels, but by all means, if it makes it a little easier to find something to celebrate in these chaotic times then I’ll let it slide.

Pros: These really do taste good and the texture is a lot of fun. Each comes with a honkin’ outer coating with a crispy, salty pretzel waiting to meet you in the middle. The pretzel is a welcome respite to help balance out all the sugar. The bag’s just big enough to get you through a small gathering—or to your next trip to TJ’s, if you’re eating for one.

Cons: These are a smidge too sweet to really gorge yourself on. They’re better suited to being eaten a few at a time than being a snack on their own, unless you really. have a sweet tooth. But hey, I know I could use a little extra help in sticking to moderation, so I’m not all that mad at it.
