Trader Joe’s has finally answered the age old question: How do I fit a watermelon into my pocket? Better yet: How do I fit a watermelon into my pocked without ending up with wet, sticky pants? You gotta dehydrate those slices so your pockets aren’t susceptible to leakage!

New Trader Joe’s Crispy Dried Watermelon is very much in TJ’s wheelhouse. It’s a novel product that’s done well enough to fit into its niche. Are these crunchy, triangular watermelon slices going to replace the fresh, juicy watermelon slices in your fridge? Not likely. But they are more versatile in a way. Hear me out…

New Product!

Trader Joe’s Crispy Dried Watermelon

Pros: Watermelon slices are already pretty crispy by nature. Dehydrating them turns that crunch up to 11. Truly, this is a crunch that will reverberate in your head for days to come. So just know what you’re getting into. Trader Joe’s Crispy Dried Watermelon slices are portable, versatile, and fun. We love fun! They’re like tortilla chips but super sweet. Pack these as a snack for the next trip you take on an airplane (assuming you’re still traveling by plane). Bring a baggie of these crunchy tiles to a picnic to avoid having sticky watermelon juice running down your forearms. Crush them up and use them to flavor the rim of a cocktail glass, or mix their sweet crumbs into a dessert. If you don’t own a dehydrator, this is a fun way to see what doors it can open.

Cons: Listen. There’s not really much going on here. And that’s okay! There’s one ingredient—watermelon. There’s not a lot they could really screw up. I will say that these suckers are loud. Seriously, they sound like tiles of a roof clacking against each other when you reach into the bag. So maybe just don’t bring these to the movie theater or I fear you’ll be banned for life.
