Our Honest Review of Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate & Almond Cookie Tiles

Move over, Tate’s—there’s a new crispy-crunchy cookie king in town! The best part of a Tate’s cookie is its signature crunch. And while, historically, Sporked enjoys Tate’s products, I think their flavors can be a little too classic. There’s nothing wrong with a chocolate chip cookie, but it can be a little snoozy. Trader Joe’s seems to agree because they made some fun decisions with these new Trader Joe’s Cookie Tiles. They’re small and square! They have dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate chips! There are yummy almonds in the mix! And it really works. Like, exceptionally well. Trader Joe’s Cookie Tiles capitalize on the crunch factor that satisfies a certain itch in your brain and makes it a memorable experience that stands apart from every other cookie you’ve had in your life.

Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate & Almond Cookie Tiles

Pros: The flavors are there. Deep, rich dark chocolate with a crispy cookie to deliver it to your taste buds. Then you get hit with pops of slivered almonds for a nutty experience that adds a whole new layer. The box is small but mighty and, honestly, it’s probably for the best because you’ll want to keep eating these until you run out. So just buy a few boxes and pay someone on Fiverr to come hide the extras around your house so you have to space out your consumption.

Cons: I encountered a burnt cookie tile while I was eating. It wasn’t enough to derail my snack sesh, but it did make an otherwise joyful experience a little unpleasant. Ultimately, I get it—these are so thin and so delicate they’re probably really easy to overcook. You want everything cooked just enough that it gets the desired crisp, but like poor Icarus, they flew a smidge too close to the sun. I’m docking them a Spork for the mishap, not to mention the terrible name.
