Say Oui, Oui! to Trader Joe’s French Onion Popcorn

French onion soup is one of France’s finest creations. It’s up there with French fries and the Statue of Liberty. What could be better than savory onion soup with wet bread and melted cheese? Almost nothing. Promising all of that wonderful flavor in a bag of popcorn is a bold move, but Trader Joe’s went there. So what did we want from new Trader Joe’s French Onion Soup Popcorn? Simply what we were promised. Did TJ’s deliver? Oui.

Trader Joe’s French Onion Popcorn

Trader Joe’s is not playing around, mon ami. This stuff smells and tastes like they dehydrated a bowl of French onion soup, pulverized the remaining solids, and sprinkled the dust over a vat of popcorn. Each kernel is absolutely coated in seasoning without it being too much. A bold onion flavor ushers in some nutty cheese and garlic powder, too. Your breath is going to be KICKING, but we don’t think you’ll mind.

Pros: Trader Joe’s couldn’t have nailed the flavors any better. This is French onion soup made portable. I’m a real sucker for a portable food. Bring it to a Survivor watch party, sneak it into the movie theater, or just bring it to bed without worrying about any soupy spillage. This popcorn rules.

Cons: I know I said the seasoning was robust without being overwhelming, but I do think it could be a lot for some people. Our other qualm is that the popcorn itself is kind of small—if you like a big, puffy kernel, this might be a letdown. But if you’re more worried about big flavor, buy this Trader Joe’s popcorn immediately.
