A new sandwich has made its debut in the grab-and-go section at Trader Joe’s. As someone who suffered through taste-tested every Trader Joe’s wrap and sandwich back in 2024, I’ll be the first to tell you: this section is long overdue for an upgrade. Maybe this will do the trick?

The new Trader Joe’s sandwich in question? Yeah, it’s just Ham & Cheese. A fancy French-style ham and cheese, though! If that helps.
What makes it fancy and French, you ask? It’s on a baguette! Duh! And it features uncured ham, soft gruyère, salted butter, and stone ground mustard, according to TJ’s official product description. I always love reading Trader Joe’s official product descriptions. Where else will you find someone comparing a basic ham & cheese sandwich to “the pleasure of eating a jambon et beurre” while “strolling the famous Tuileries garden in Paris.” Okay, TJ’s. I’ll be eating this from the front seat of my car in your hot parking lot, but okay. Sure. I’m in Paris.
So far, people seem a little unenthused about this new sandwich.
Just take a look at the comments section under this IG post. Normally we’re all foaming at the mouth for any new Trader Joe’s item on the shelves, but I’m getting more of a “walk, don’t run” vibe this time around. I’ve seen some pretty viable criticisms of it so far, like:
- The lack of ham in the actual sandwich. Shoppers are saying it isn’t nearly as stacked as the photo suggests.
- The sodium content, which is 1270mg. That’s over half your daily value in one sandwich.
But I think the general skepticism here originates from TJ’s lackluster deli section overall. (The amazing and iconic Lemon Basil Pasta Salad is excluded from that criticism, FYI.) Because the only TJ’s grab-and-go wraps worth your dime are the Tarragon Chicken Salad Wrap and Spicy Lentil Wrap. Yeah, I said what I said. (Maybe we can add the Chicken Caesar to that list, too, but I count personally vouch for it yet.)
Will you be trying this fancy ham sandwich and envisioning yourself on a picnic by the Seine?
