Trader Joe’s has a new frozen dessert and shoppers are having a hard time making it last.

The chain recently added Mango Sticky Rice to its freezer section (a frozen take on the classic Thai dessert) and it’s already generating the kind of buzz Trader Joe’s fans usually reserve for products that promptly sell out. Which, fittingly, this one has done more than once.

Here’s what all the fuss is about.

What It Actually Is

Mango Sticky Rice is a frozen version of the Thai dessert you’ve probably had at a restaurant: sweet, coconut-infused sticky rice paired with mango. Trader Joe’s version comes with coconut-infused glutinous rice, cubed mango, a coconut cream drizzle, and a little packet of crunchy fried mung beans to sprinkle on top for texture.

It’s vegan, gluten-free, and it heats up in the microwave in about 50 seconds. So it’s a grab-it-from-the-freezer-and-eat-it-in-a-minute situation, which is part of the appeal.

The box costs $4.69 and contains two individually portioned servings.

Shoppers Are Obsessed

The reception has been a lot. One shopper called its arrival a “dream come true,” while another gave it an 11 out of 10, which is not technically a valid score but does communicate the general mood.

The dessert has already sold out multiple times, turning it into one of those Trader Joe’s products that shoppers seem to develop a small sense of urgency about. If you’ve ever watched someone grab the last bag of a seasonal Trader Joe’s snack, you know how quickly “I’ll try it sometime” can become “I should probably buy three.”

The Portions Are… Small

Here’s where that two servings per box detail comes back around. A recurring note from shoppers is that the portions are on the small side, which has led to the very predictable outcome of people eating the entire box (i.e., both servings) in one sitting.

To be clear, that’s less a complaint and more a confession. When the dessert is this easy to heat up and this good, “two servings” quickly becomes “one serving I’ve decided to eat all of.”

I can’t say I blame them.

The One Catch

It’s not universally beloved. The main gripe, beyond the portion size, is the texture: some shoppers aren’t sold on warm, microwaved mango, which can go a little soft and mushy once heated. If the idea of hot mango doesn’t appeal to you, this may not be your dessert.

But if you’re already a mango sticky rice person and mostly want the convenience of having it waiting in your freezer instead of ordering it from a Thai restaurant, it’s a pretty easy $4.69 to justify.

Just maybe buy two boxes. You know, for portioning purposes.
