‘Tis the season for seasoning. I know; every season is the season for seasoning. I just couldn’t resist the little play on words there. It’s Monday morning, let me have a little fun! Anyway – while we encourage you to season your food 365 days of the year, the lead-up to the holidays brings certain tastes back into the fray, and food companies know just when it’s time to drop their festive flavors. A couple of weeks ago, McCormick brought out a bunch of new (and returning) seasoning mixes, designed to make your Thanksgiving a little easier – and now, Trader Joe’s is spicing things up with a returning favorite.

It’s safe to say you might want to stock up on this one. Everything But The Leftovers is back, baby.
Everything But The Leftovers
Late last week, eagle-eyed Trader Joe’s shoppers started spotting the store’s Everything But The Leftovers Seasoning Blend on its shelves once more. I know I mentioned “spicing things up” just now, but this blend goes much heavier on the warming, earthy, herbal notes that define flavors this time of year. A combination of dried rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley, onion powder, turmeric powder, celery seed, salt, and black pepper, it’s fragrant, comforting, and complex.
Arguably the real stars of the show, though, are the baker’s and torula yeast in the mix, which give the seasoning blend an umami kick. Without these, it would merely be a convenient way to get all of these flavors in your food without having to reach for loads of different jars; with them, it becomes a must-try seasoning.
Must-Try? Really?
Well, that’s what Trader Joe’s customers say. Whenever Everything But The Leftovers returns, TJ’s shoppers are quick to express their joy, and this year’s been no different. After @traderjoesobsessed spotted it and posted about it on Instagram, their comment section was promptly bombarded with excited comments. “It’s the best,” “I always stock up for the year,” and “LOVE this on fresh popcorn” were just a few of the choice responses.
Fresh Popcorn? What Else Can I Use It On?
Well, to be honest, you can kind of use it on anything. That’s the beauty of this seasoning mix: It’ll add a festive flavor to whatever you’re making. Along with sprinkling it on leftovers, as per its name, Trader Joe’s customers variously suggest using it on (deep breath) scrambled eggs, avocado toast, turkey burgers, pork chops, chicken, soups, butternut squash ravioli, biscuits and gravy, Thanksgiving dinner rolls, mushroom stew, potatoes, and mac and cheese – and that really is just the tip of the iceberg. Its versatility is its key strength. You can even season your Thanksgiving turkey with it if you want a little pop of flavor on what can be a famously bland bird.
