Pickle fans, I hope you’re ready for a big punch of flavor. Van Holten’s, the company best-known for inventing the pickle-in-a-pouch (which dates all the way back to 1939, by the way) and turning the dill pickle into so much more than a handheld snack, is about to debut a truly one-of-a-kind treat.

Pickles in a Pouch Are About to Get a Sweet and Sour Twist

Pickles in a pouch are getting the sweet treatment thanks to a new collaboration between Van Holten’s and Calypso Lemonade. We spotted the unannounced product at Redstone Foods, which offers a sneak peek of the latest pickle, which appears to be named Van Holten’s Jumbo Pickle in a Pouch – Calypso Original Lemonade Flavor.

The lemonade and pickle combination is described as “Classic Van Holten’s pickles meet the refreshing taste of Calypso Lemonade!” Supposedly, this unique pickle product will feature a sweet yet tart lemonade flavor combined with the dill pickle profile you already know well. Each one of the lemon-y pickles will be sold in a grab-and-go pouch for easy snacking.

What will Calypso’s Original Lemonade add to a classic Van Holten’s dill pickle? Well, the Original Lemonade itself is touted as “not too sweet, not too sour.” It’s meant to be refreshing like a classic homemade lemonade, so odds are that same flavor profile will carry over to these pickles in a pouch.

But pickles are, of course, tart themselves. So you might want to be prepared for one extra-sour spin on lemonade… or even pickles.

As of right now, we aren’t sure when this Van Holten x Calypso Lemonade collaboration might debut and be available to taste. It’s currently labeled “Coming Soon.” However, it looks like similar products are expected to debut in early 2027, so we think it’s likely this lemon-y pickle will see a release date next year.

Are You Daring Enough to Try A Lemonade-Flavored Pickle?

As a pickle hater myself, I can confidently say you won’t catch me with one of the new Van Holten x Calypso Original Lemonade pickles in hand. But if you love a good pickle in a pouch, then who am I to attempt to dissuade you from trying this… creative concoction.

Sure, Van Holten’s newest pickle might seem terrifying at first glance (perhaps as frightening as the collab between Grillo’s Pickles and Burt’s Bees), but I guess I can see the argument for it working as a flavor combination. After all, lemonade itself is popular because it blends sweetness with sour citrus. Maybe its flavor will only improve the pickles’ tart, brine-heavy flavor. Maybe a little sweetness is exactly what a pickle needs.

After all, this isn’t the first time Van Holten has combined an absolutely wild (but still familiar) flavor with its pickles in a pouch. The Van Holten Warheads Extreme Sour Dill Pickle exists — and it takes the extreme sour, mouth-puckering flavor profile of Warheads candy and combines it with a jumbo pickle.

So, if we’re considering how Van Holten’s lemonade-inspired pickles might taste, honestly, they look pretty tame in comparison to a super sour Warheads version. Who knows, they might even surprise you with how irresistible they are.
