The food scientists at Del Monte are working overtime. Del Monte recently partnered with Hidden Valley Ranch to launch ranch flavored whole kernel corn. At the same time, and seemingly on their own accord, Del Monte also used the opportunity to sneak out a can of zesty Italian inspired vinaigrette flavored cut green beans.

This is quite the announcement to process. Luckily for you, your job ends there. You’re not the one tasked with tasting them. That’s where I come in and boy, do I wish I had any other job on the planet right now. Here are my thoughts on Del Monte’s new ranch flavored whole kernel corn and zesty Italian inspired vinaigrette flavored cut green beans.
Del Monte Ranch Flavored Whole Kernel Corn
Pros: Hey, at least the Midwest got some representation with this ranch love. And by ranch love, I mean Del Monte giving ranch the spotlight for a few minutes―not that I love what the ranch is doing here. The pro of this ranch flavored corn is that it’s made with Del Monte corn. Which is genuinely pleasant and of which we are actual fans. I just hate everything else that comes with it this time.
Cons: The moment your tongue makes contact with the contents of this can (be it corn or juice) you will be overloaded with ranch. I genuinely wonder if there was an accident at the plant and they added in 50x the ranch seasoning that should have made it into the can I tried.
I love a gimmick and I can’t even find a use for this creation. I have never once thought that I needed to combine ranch and corn. There is simply too much ranch seasoning to eat on its own. Then comes the idea of incorporating it into a dish. The only problem is, what dish would you even try to fit that into? Buffalo ranch chicken dip with bits of corn thrown in? Surely not.
Del Monte Zesty Italian Inspired Vinaigrette Cut Green Beans
Pros: These taste exactly like the vinaigrette that you can get at Jersey Mike’s. Which, technically, I am a fan of. I’m just used to there being a little more variety of flavors as a part of the experience. There’s one note―vinaigrette. You can hardly even taste the actual green beans.
That being said, I think out of the two canned veggies that we’re trying out today, these are the best fit for adding into a dish. I could see a world where you can find the right accompanying flavors to make a green bean casserole with this vinaigrette-soaked variety that isn’t a total mess. I just am too overwhelmed from this whole experience to lay that out right now.
Cons: I already had to tease the main con to get to my last point. There is just too much flavor going on here. I just can’t see a world where anyone would taste this in the lab and think it was good enough to make it out to market. Del Monte must be sitting on a stockpile of vinaigrette that they simply can’t unload onto Jersey Mike’s fast enough.
