We Tried Every New Jeni’s Fall Ice Cream Flavor

Five new fall flavors headed to an ice cream shop sounds a little dangerous. Then again, I guess you have to do anything you can to get people in the store when the temps start to dip. I see you, Jeni’s. No literally, I see you because I’m standing outside your store waiting to try the five new fall ice cream flavors that you dropped this week. Let’s dig in!

Hazelnut Stracciatella

Pros: This had a lot of hazelnut to it! Which is great if you love hazelnut. And only if you love hazelnut.

Cons: If you consider yourself anything but hazelnut’s biggest fan then this scoop from Jeni’s might be a bit too much for you. It takes over the dish and sticks with you long after you move onto the next one.

Salty Caramel

Pros: Every ice cream shop needs a safe choice and this fall, salty caramel is the safe choice at Jeni’s. It is exactly what it advertises. Salty caramel ice cream for you to enjoy.

Cons: There’s no depth to this. There’s no added flakes to find. No bits of explosion for your mouth. It’s just salty caramel all the way through so it’s getting a few sporks knocked off.

Pear Frangipane

Pros: This was by far the most flavorful scoop of ice cream in the bunch. It’s just pear and pear all the way through. While it does certainly jump off the spoon, it’s not overwhelmingly in your face about it. Jeni’s recommends it as a pairing with the salty caramel so I mixed them up together for a great result.

Cons: My own preferences are certainly coming through on this one. This scoop from Jeni’s certainly was giving pear, but I’m just not a pear loving guy so I got a little bored by the end of it.

Pumpkin with Brown Sugar Blondies

Pros: This makes for an amazing pumpkin pie/spice ice cream. It’s exactly what you’d expect if someone were to hand you a scoop with that in mind. That said, there is one con that comes off of that note.

Cons: The pumpkin and accompanying spices were a bit too powerful to get any real notes from the brown sugar blondie. While it does feel like this was improperly named, it’s still a dang good scoop of ice cream for the fall season.

Miso Butterscotch Brownie

Pros: Delish. Superb. Dare I say, perfect. This miso butterscotch brownie ice cream was divine. The brownie sets things off with a chocolate note and then comes the miso for a playful bit of umami. Given the nature of both the miso and the brownie, I was surprised but delighted to even taste the butterscotch come through.

Cons: No notes―get this as soon as you can!
