Randy’s Donuts, the beloved and iconic donut shop, has been slowly expanding around the country. In their quest to move outwards from their home state of California, they’re putting a little flair on their menu with a few limited-edition fall items. Being the respectable taste testers that we are, we had to check out for ourselves. Up ahead we’ll be checking out their pumpkin cake donut with cream cheese frosting and the pistachio and cinnamon crumb raised donuts (that are based on their butter crumb raised donut that you can find all year long).

Pumpkin Cake Donut with Cream Cheese

Pros: Everyone considers themselves either a cake or a raised donut kind of person. I fall into the former so we’re already off to a great start. There’s a playfully light pumpkin flavor to this donut. I appreciate that considering we are smack-dab in the middle of pumpkin season. Consider this a break without getting too far away from the theme of the season. On top of the donut, you’ll find the cream cheese icing and pumpkin cake crumbs sprinkled on top.

Cons: This one was a little too dry for my liking. I love a cake donut but you really have to do it justice otherwise it falls flat of the more impressive yeast donut. Still, nothing a little dunk into your pumpkin spice latte couldn’t fix. Ultimately I liked this donut but didn’t love it so maybe we did need that extra blast of pumpkin flavor after all.

Butter Crumb Raised Donut

Pros: To talk about the new crumb donuts at Randy’s, we have to go back to the beginning. The foundation. Their revolutionary butter crumb raised donut. This fluffy raised donut is perfectly moist, has a bit of structure to it so you get some chew, but it’s also soft enough that you won’t worry about this one drying out too quickly. It’s topped with a shower of sweet glaze and sprinkles of rich buttery crumbs (think coffee cake topping but without the cinnamon). It’s as indulgent as it is iconic.

Cons: I could see the argument that this is too much fatty goodness to put on a donut. Do I agree with that? Well, no. But I could see how one could think it.

Pistachio Crumb Raised Donut

Pros: Pistachio lovers really got a good one today. This somehow takes the perfection of the butter crumb raised donut and infuses it with pistachio flavor to the max while still preserving everything there is to love about the original. The pistachio-flavored icing and pistachio butter crumbs give it a beautiful green hue that really would make for an amazing start to your day. It’s just good, clean, nutty fun.

Cons: Obviously I’m not going to take any Sporks off for this but I really do wish this would stick around past the fall festivities. Come on, Randy. Do it for me!

Cinnamon Crumb Raised Donut

Pros: Randy’s Donuts tops their raised donut, splashes it with some glaze, and tops it with cinnamon-infused crumbs. It’s like a more concentrated version of a coffee cake. Basically, this is the next evolution to the standard cake. Many of the same pros from the last two are here. You’re getting that butter crumb topping to boost the donut up from a traditional plain glazed. A sense of fall gets thrown in through the use of cinnamon.

Cons: There’s a lot of cinnamon going on here. I’m as much of a cinnamon lover as you could possibly be, but it’s a bit too much for me. Of all the donuts I tried today, this is the one that I just couldn’t see myself finishing in one sitting. I never thought I’d see the day where I could be served up too much cinnamon.
