I always love to see what new and exciting hacks the Internet will come up with. And this week, the hack plays off of perhaps the most delicious thing of everything at Chipotle: the corn salsa. The viral hack taking over my feed combines a side of corn salsa with other ordinary Chipotle items to make one extra special dip. It’s the perfect thing to spice up the bland (sorry, Chipotle) chips that you can get from Chipotle to accompany your meal.

The hack requires you to act a little silly upfront, though. I mean, going to Chipotle and asking for a large side of corn salsa, a side of sour cream, and a side of salsa verde is a little strange. Personally, I’d recommend placing your order online or through the app to avoid some of the inevitable questioning that I faced when I picked up the ingredients to try out the dip, if you’re looking to try it out yourself. But nonetheless, we got the ingredients, mixed them together, and now it’s time to see what’s really up.

Here’s Our Thoughts

The thing about this hack is that it does actually require quite a good bit of extra work. Typically, when you think about a hack, you think about something that brings ease or convenience to your eating experience. But the only benefit that this brings is extra flavor. And it’s all about proportions. If you get a large side of corn salsa and add the entire side of sour cream and the entire side of salsa verde to it, it’s gonna be egregiously sour cream-y and runny―not to mention an absolute mess. As the hack demonstrates though, a large corn salsa really only needs a third of the small side of sour cream and about 2/3 to 3/4 of the salsa verde side.

I’ll be the first to admit, though, the flavor of this modified dip really outshines the inconvenience and, albeit, messiness of this process. Even with the correct proportions, it is still pretty runny because of the salsa verde. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it’s not something you can really have for on-the-go enjoyment. But again, the flavor really nullifies much of that unfortunate circumstance. The smokiness of the salsa verde, the freshness and perfectly balanced sweetness of the corn salsa, and the tangy creaminess of the sour cream come together to create a pretty incredible bite.

And if my only real qualm of the dip is its inconvenience making it more difficult to eat more passionately, then I’d say that’s a pretty good rapport. It makes the Chipotle corn salsa even better, since it’s more balanced as a dip for consumption with chips. It becomes saucy, smoky, and somehow elevates the thing I already believed to be a perfect condiment from Chipotle.
