One of my absolute favorite drinks in the summertime is a spicy margarita. Non-alcoholic or the full shebang, it’s the perfect ‘swicy’ treat that both refreshes you and excites your senses for the summer. I mean, what’s better than the crisp, fresh, slightly vegetal flavor of a jalapeño to pair with the flavors of summer? Well, TikTok and Instagram reels breathe new life into an old trend―a trend that plays on those notes of a jalapeño with something that mirrors and compliments it: a cold glass of sauvignon blanc.

A Twist For 2026
2026 has already seen the death of quite a few food trends. But, this beverage’s popularity is on the rise for the second time around. Sarah Jessica Parker’s wine brand even developed its own jalapeño wine variety and cited Nielsen data indicating that over the past four weeks the brand has seen a 44% increase in sales as the trend began to reignite.
But this time, the trend is accompanied with a twist. The spicy drink, typically made by adding frozen jalapeño slices to a chilled glass of sauvignon blanc is now being showcased on socials with the addition of a squeeze of lime and sometimes even the addition of frozen mango.
Is It Any Good?
I was eager to taste test this trend and its variations out as a lover of spicy food (and drinks, too, I suppose). And it’s simple enough to prep these drinks. With the payoff of some kind of cocktail, it’s really just a glass of wine with a couple of unique ice cubes.
I started the taste test giving the original rendition its time to shine. I had a cold glass of sauvignon blanc with three or four frozen jalapeño slices that I removed after four minutes when it reached my desired spice level. Again, I love it spicy―so you can definitely work your way up to a spicier drink by starting with one to two slices and removing after two minutes. On its own, this is a perfect drink. It’s spicy but not too spicy and the fresh green flavors of wine and jalapeño were so complimentary that it tasted like as natural of a combo as it could’ve been.
The addition of lime really takes this to the next level of brightness. And with anything jalapeño flavored, I feel like it just begs for the flavor of lime. Adding mango invites back some of the sweetness and creates what I think is a really well rounded drink flavor. Sweet, spicy, acidic, and fresh―what could be better?
The best part about all versions of the drink is that you never lose the sauvignon blanc flavor, but you do accentuate it and make it more palatable by turning it into a cocktail of sort that would make it more palatable for those more wine adverse. For me, I’ll be making the most of the trend long after it dies out from my feed.
