Wendy’s Caved to Fans’ Demands and Is Bringing Back Sweet and Sour Sauce

It’s always a bit of a cliché for businesses to say that they’re listening to their customers: Every business claims this, but whether they actually act on it is another question entirely. Well, in the last few months, it looks as though Wendy’s really is listening, as far as menu items are concerned. The restaurant chain recently announced that it would be bringing back its Pretzel Bacon Pub Burger after its customers voted for its return, and now, it’s told us that its Sweet & Sour dipping sauce is making its way back to stores.

Wendy’s Sweet & Sour Sauce: It Has Risen

Wendy’s Sweet & Sour dipping sauce used to be a must-order for its customers, but in September 2025, everything changed. The chain decided to remove the sauce from its menu, with little warning. Now, fast food menu changes are always prone to creating stirs, and on this occasion, it was no different. The world subsequently saw an influx of social media posts and comments asking for the sauce to be returned to the Wendy’s menu.

Well, it seems as though the restaurant has finally relented. Wendy’s has brought it back as of April 27 – but the kicker is that it’s only available for a limited time. In its press statement announcing the re-release of the sauce, Wendy’s stated that “if fans want Sweet and Sour sauce to stick around, they have to show us how much they love it by ordering the sauce and by liking, commenting and sharing this post.” Now, we don’t wanna be over-the-top, but that feels like a very transactional approach to keeping sauces on the menu – but it is a business, after all.

Is That The Whole Story?

Not really. Although Wendy’s is heralding the return of its Sweet & Sour dipping sauce as a new announcement, the truth is that it’s been in the works for a while – for almost as long as it’s been off the menu, in fact. Back in December 2025, influencer @justjazzzyidk posted a TikTok video where she stated that she had a call with Wendy’s, and they agreed for the sauce to come back, all while she bit into a chicken nugget with sweet & sour sauce on it. @justjazzzyidk subsequently appeared in another TikTok video just yesterday, in which she runs into a Wendy’s to grab the returning sauce.

As well as this, Wendy’s included its Sweet & Sour dipping sauce in its Bring It Back Bracket vote (the vote over on V that culminated in the return of its Pretzel Bacon Pub Burger), even though it had already announced via @justjazzzyidk that it was coming back. So…why did it do that? Well, it’s all got people talking, guys – and now, here we are, talking about it again. That’s some good marketing hustle.
