While we here at Sporked might not be able to comment on any of the other activities that take place in Las Vegas, there is one intersection between us. That is, of course, food. Las Vegas hasn’t always been known as a hub of food innovation and quality. But, with the rise of the celebrity chef and the growing attractions within Las Vegas beyond its nightlife, the food seen had been absolutely popping.

At this point, it feels like half of the allure of even taking a trip out to Vegas is lining your trip with reservations at restaurants designed by best-in-the-business chefs. We’re all for it. It seems like it was about time for there to be more to fill your days with then casinos and shopping. But, beyond all of the celebrity chef restaurants, there’s also a market of food innovation in Vegas that shouldn’t be overlooked. And that, folks, is what brings us here today. There is something so outrageously innovative, and yet so basic, being made in Vegas that we simply have to bring it to your attention.
An Outrageous Sandwich
When it comes to American classics, the New York slice of pizza and the Philly cheesesteak will inevitably come to mind when going down the list. But, what we’ve never thought about or even considered as an option for a Philly cheesesteak would be to make it with a cheese pizza wrap of sorts.
Now, I know what you might be imagining… it’s at least what we initially imagined when we heard of this concept. Regardless, we thought this would entail taking the filling of the cheesesteak – the shaved beef, the onions, and the cheese – putting it on top of a cheese pizza and wrapping it up like a burrito. This concept to us sounded absolutely delicious and opened up a whole world possibilities in our imagination of different foods that we could replace tortillas with pizza for.
But that’s not actually how the sandwich in Vegas is being made. Instead, Lucino’s Pizza makes the full Philly cheesesteak, bun and all, plops it on top of a cheese pizza, and then wraps it like a burrito. They’re doubling up on the carbs (which we never have a problem with) and making an absolute beast of a sandwich.
To hone in on the Philly cheesesteak flavor profile, they even serve it with a side of cheese sauce to mimic that original spray cheese Philly cheesesteak concept. Honestly, this whole sandwich, despite being listed as fit to serve four people at a time, is still the absolute picture of American indulgence. And while some people might sit here and say that this sandwich is too much and totally unnecessary, I’d bet that they’d be pretty happy getting to taste one of these sandwiches themselves. And let’s be honest, Las Vegas has never been known for subtlety, so why would its food?
If you’re interested in trying the dish out for yourself next time you’re in Vegas, head to Lucino’s Pizza. It’ll run you $50, but considering it feeds four, we’ve certainly heard of worse prices in Vegas.
