What Are Pasta Chips?

If you hear about a new dish that sounds like someone just smooshed two random food words together, you can usually be assured it came from TikTok. That’s definitely the case with pasta chips. So, what are pasta chips? How do you make them? Let’s journey into the depths of TikTok to find out what a pasta chip is.

What are pasta chips?

Pasta chips are a somewhat recent viral TikTok phenomenon. They’re pretty much exactly what they sound like. Pasta chips are crispy pieces of pasta that you can use the same way you’d use a chip: as a dip delivery system. Someone somewhere must have been dipping some chips into their guac and thought, “If only I could do this with a noodle.” So what has made pasta chips so popular recently? Why haven’t we been making pasta chips for centuries? Pasta chips have proliferated along with the exploding popularity of air fryers. That’s right, your annoying cousin was right. You should get an air fryer.

How to make pasta chips

Pasta chips are amazingly simple to make. All you need to do is boil some pasta as you normally would. Then drain that pasta until it is nice and dry. Mix those soft noodles with some olive oil, parmesan cheese, and spices. (I like some nice Italian-y spices like basil, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper.) Now toss that coated pasta into an air fryer and let it fry until it’s golden brown. It usually takes about ten minutes. You can also make pasta chips in the oven if you don’t have an air fryer, although they may not be as crispy.

What’s the best type of pasta for pasta chips?

There are hundreds of different ways you could make this recipe. People love to play around with the spices and different types of pasta. The most popular type of pasta to use for pasta chips seems to be bowtie pasta, or farfalle pasta if you’re fancy. Bowtie pasta chips have two nice, flat surfaces that are great for dipping. And really, the pasta is only half the story. The other half is that dip.

Okay, so you’ve liquidated your 401K, used that money to buy all the pasta you could find, and filled your house with pasta chips. Now what? Now, you have to decide what to dip those suckers in. Pasta chips can be dipped in any kind of dip you can imagine. Salsa? For sure. Guacamole? Of course. Ranch? You better believe it. One of the more popular dips is marinara.  I like to make a whipped feta dip by throwing feta cheese, Greek yogurt, and garlic into a food processor.

Now that you know all about those TikTok pasta chips you keep hearing about, it’s time to give them a try. Because the newest mash-up food is hot on pasta chips’ heels and you need to get on it. It’s salad fries. Just kidding—or did I actually just invent the hottest new food trend? Start frying that iceberg!
