What Is Sprite Chill and How Does It Work?

Einstein didn’t die—he’s been working in R&D for Sprite. At least, it certainly seems that way because those geniuses keep cranking out innovations like Sprite Chill. Original Sprite’s lemon-lime flavor profile is already brilliant. But, as is the case in both our personal lives, we wanted more chill. Luckily, our demands were heard and the scientists at Coca-Cola got to work. (On the drink, that is. They told us they were not at liberty to address our personal lives.) 

But what is Sprite Chill? And what makes it so chill? How does Sprite Chill work? Here’s everything you need to know. 

What is Sprite Chill?

Sprite Chill is marketed as one of the first sparkling soft drinks to offer a cooling sensation without being minty. If you need a level of sensory stimulation that even the coldest drink can’t reach, this is a much tastier way to achieve it than chasing a pack of Orbit with an icy soda then inhaling sharply through your teeth, and much safer than putting that -340 degree liquid nitrogen anywhere near your mouth. 

What does Sprite Chill taste like?

What flavor is Sprite Chill? Skeptics may assume that a drink with a chemical cooling sensation might taste a little like Icy Hot. We can confirm that is not the case, and that Icy Hot will upset your tummy. We’re okay, we swear. 

There are actually two Sprite Chill flavors on the market right now. There’s Sprite Chill Cherry Lime, which boasts the addition of cherry and lime to the Sprite’s signature lemon-lime profile. While it’s tasty, the cherry lime is on the subtle side; like it came to play, but not to win. Other fans have compared it to a Shirley Temple or a Sonic cherry limeade. There’s also a new, limited-time strawberry kiwi flavor, exclusive to Walmart. It tastes very, very sweet and is very reminiscent of strawberry-kiwi flavored drinks from the ‘90s. 

Is Sprite Chill permanent?

Not only will Cherry Lime Sprite Chill live forever in our hearts, and perhaps in the newly formed cavities in our teeth, but it’s also a permanent addition to Coca-Cola brand’s portfolio as of 2024. That’s not surprising, considering that it was originally a limited-time offering, but became the top selling Coca-Cola innovation in North America in 2024. Shoutout to Coca-Cola for giving the people what we want. 

How does Sprite chill work?

Perhaps the exact science of Sprite Chill will remain one of the Coca-Cola brand’s best-kept secrets, which would be saying a lot considering they seem pretty okay with everyone knowing their early sodas literally contained cocaine. 

Sprite Chill contains what is only noted as “a proprietary blend of cooling agents” to give it that addictive cooling sensation without tasting like mint. We know it doesn’t contain menthol, so we suspect they just added the coldest ingredient known to man: a  parent making intense eye contact and saying, “I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.”

Does Sprite Chill have caffeine?

No! Like classic Sprite, it’s caffeine-free. Any burst of energy you feel can be attributed to excitement about the sensation in your mouth. Or sugar.
